When you say switch off and on do you mean that you turned off the current instead of windows shutting it's self down?

If you physically turned of windows (Switched the electricity off) then you have damaged the operating system PERIOD!

It is the same that you go to the library to do research. All over the whole library you have two hundred books opened to places that you are working from. A wind comes and blows all your books on the floor. How long will it take you to get back to where you were?

That is what happens to windows when you physically turn it off.
The address of all the active files do not get written, data in RAM is lost instead of being written. All kings of start locations and conditions are not written and the current status of the register is not recorded. The system will try to recover on the next boot but data will be lost period. This will cause system failure again!

You are at the point where, for stability, you should wipe the hard drive and reinstall.

Mostly likely a corrupt file in Windows or in your log on profile. It could also be a warning that the hard drive is about to die.

Recommend you do an immediate backup of any files you do not want to risk losing (pictures, music, vids, etc).

Boot your PC with your Windows CD in the CD drive
Let the Windows setup begin
After you do the F8 to agree, you will be asking about formatting the hard drive
Tell it to repair Windows without reformatting the drive
It should reinstall the Windows files without deleting anything off the drive
If that does not work, you may have to format and reinstall Windows
If you still have problems after that, you will need to replace the hard drive...

Talk to a technician at once, and describe your problem in detail before taking any advice, especially if you know nothing about computers. Call your manufactor, they may have a solution.
good luck
