I used to be a personal aide for some students with CP; I also did respite for them in their homes. They liked movies and music, and big-print books, games, and playing cards. Books on tape/cd would be good too.

Give him/her something with several different textures such as a stuffed animal made out of several materials. I have a great-neice w/cerebral palsey and she loves the different feelings of varied materials. For example: give him/her something made w/satin, fur, leather, fleece and something bumpy or rough. They have a wonderful sense of touch or smell. You might consider perfume or cologne although you should check w/the caregiver/parent before giving things w/scents.
I hope that this has been of some help to you! Your question has made me start missing my precious little Megan whom I don't see very often. Only I bet she's not little now, she's 10 or 11.

Bless you, Sharon, for caring! Another helpful idea is that if they child is wearing a brace, they rub, and padding would be very welcome. It's not a glamorous gift, but it is a thoughtful one. Remember that they face years and years of this rubbing and the spots become very tender. Some soft things (foam rubber pads, lambskin pads, maybe the new softie blankets for cutting up to use as pads (colorful ones would be fun). God bless you for your thoughtful heart!!
