My first time was with my wife, but we weren't married yet. She's the only one I've been with.

Midge is wrong. Celibate means not having sex. One can even be, according to the RC church, celibate within marriage.

In the 1950 -60 and before it was expected that a proper young lady would be a virgin on her wedding night. I know that things have changed in the past 20 - 30 years, but at one time it was expected and 90% of young women were.

No, I didn't, but not because of that lame "test drive" excuse. If sex is so important that you feel like you gotta "test drive" somebody before you make the commitment to marry them, then your union will be based on physical intimacy (which will deteriorate over time) rather than emotional intimacy (which will grow over time). That said, I think that LOVE is the most important qualifier for sex, not MARRIAGE. I know there are plenty of people who think otherwise- that sex can be just another way to have fun and needn't have anything to do with "love"- but marriage does not always = love, just as love does not always = sex.

We didn't. 1) I didn't think I'd ever meet a man who'd love me enough to wait. 2) My mother always said things like, "You've got to sell yourself," and "If you love him, never say no." 3) I had read what Jesus said about "no marriage or giving in marriage" (Luke 20:27-36) and wanted to make sure I'd get some sex before Jesus's coming. 4) My housemate said people already thought we were doing it, and my reputation was the only reason for holding out. Pitiful, hunh!

None of those reasons were worth the confusion and hard feelings all around. His mother hated me. My parents never trusted him. My parents lost their confidence in me, which so far has cost $89,000 in inheritance. Other young men and girls did handsprings trying to date us, who were already committed to each other. It made other people cry. It prepared the way for our abortion, which set the stage for our eventual divorce.

If so, then WHY??? What were you saving, and who for? Do you really think that virginity on either sex's part is some kind of prize? I can think of little worse than two people fumbling around, neither knowing what to do or how to do it. Ug! As the song goes, "I'm still rooting of Hester to win just one more A"

ROTFLMAO! No, I stayed until I was engaged then decided it was best if we went for a "test drive" before we got married. Had he flunked the "road test" then I could have gotten out of it more easily than getting a divorce.

Why would I? You need to test drive a car before you take it home.
