I have the same problem with my dogs. I just want to add a caution to the use of Adolphs , it is extremely high in Sodium and can have negative side effects that can be dangerous. Check the label before you use it, although I would suggest trying the other methods instead. I'm not an expert or anything, I found this out the hard way. I had 2 very sick dogs from this and only discovered the cause by accident. By the way, mine still do! GOOD LUCK

Actually, the phenominon is known as coprophagia, and experts have several guesses to why dogs do it:

1. Because the dog was scolded for crapping, say, in the living room. As a result, they try to hide what they perceive are "mistakes" by hiding it in their stomach.

2. Some dogs will do it out of boredom of anxiety, or because they've seen other dogs do it.

3. If the animal is not domesticated as many dogs are, they do it to avoid attracting a predator - not so common as that happens more in the wild... but I figured I'd throw that explanation in there.

I have never had a dog that did this...totally unacceptable. Watch the dog closely and train her not to. Dogs do what they are trained to do. A sharp "NO" should do it .... When she stops going near it after a 'No, No Poop", then praise her. works quickly, to the point, and is easy if you know when she does it. No way will I allow my dog to do this. If it eats is own, it will eat other dogs, and that is downright dangerous..worms, etc. no thank you.

Its a natural phase that most dogs go through. You can discourage it by keeping it picked up, or by adding stuff to her food that makes it taste bitter.(not the food, but the poop). You can add Forbid, which is sold where pet supplies are sold, or Adolf's meat tenderizer, or pineapple chunks..

Crushed pineapple over her food works great. The dog won't mind the taste on the food but it will make her poo taste awful.

My dog did this as a puppy. We tried feeding him crushed pineapple, and he ate it and the poop anyway. As he has grown older, he eats his poop less frequently, but, frankly, your best bet it just to pick it up asap, and remove the temptation.

Yes, my dog did this too. It shouldn't be a problem unless the dog does it all the time, just watch your dog

Coprophagia is actually a fairly common problem in many dogs. The good news is that you can put a stop to it - http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/stop-dogs-eating-dog-poop.html

It is disturbing but relatively normal. Just make sure you clean it up when she has his poohs then she can't eat it
