She was still scratchin today so i bought some Zodiac Fleatrol Shampoo which kills fleas on contact. After her bath whe was still scracthin. Any suggestions? (her ears were recently cleaned also)

you have wasted your money purchasing flea products over the counter, they ususally don't work. You need to contact your vet for a flea product and have your vet check the ears, your dog may have an infection in the ears that will require antibiotics or ear cleaner

ok, the hertz flea products are a waste of $$$. too many chemicals in a 24 hour period on your dog. the shampoo prob washed off the other product. even tho your dogs ears were just cleaned, by the vet? she could have an infection or ear mites. go to vet. she also may be having a flea allergy. go to vet. talk to your vet about a better flea control like advantage, frontline or revolution. to prevent and kill fleas on your dog. be sure to tell the vet the products you just used also. you will need to treat your enviroment also, to be sure that any fleas dont' get a chance to start reproducing and cause an infestation. do you take your poodle to the groomers? they can pick up fleas from there. if the dog was just recently groomed it's poss that water got in the ear. since a dog's ear canal is a "L" shape, you can't just look in it and think there is nothing wrong. does it smell bad? very red and inflammed? I would go to the vet on Monday if not better. good luck and hope this helps

The flea treatment and a bath may have killed off the fleas (hopefully anyway) but the actual flea bites on her skin and inside her ears are still itchy and will be itchy for a couple of days. It's like how humans get a mosquito bite, you kill the mosquito but the bite still itches!
Give her warm water rinses every day for about a week. You can use witch hazel or calomine lotion on the flea bites if you can find them, they should look like a little raised bump on her skin, it'll likely be pink or red in color.
Zodiac products are amazing, we've used them on our pets for many years and they've been very successful. If you continue to see fleas on her after a few days, remember that your home is likely infested too and will need a house treatment, including beds, rugs, furniture and basements. Zodiac has a great website, just google search it :)
Best Wishes

Your dog may have an ear infection. I suggest you get a tissue, or a cotton swab and wipe the inside of the ear. Go down the cannal a bit and see what colour of 'gunk' comes out. If it is red, it might be dried blood, and that means your dog needs an antibiotic, so take her to the vet for a check up and swab of the ear. If it just looks like dirt, you can buy (usually from the vet) a cleaner that will keep the ph ballance of the ear slightly acidic to keep out infection. Do this every day until the ear comes clean. NEVER USE A Q-TIP!!! Since you say that they were recently cleaned, it could be an allergic reaction to the stuff you used to clean them out.
Good Luck!

I agree with everything that has been said so far, especially about the over the counter flea treatments, possibly infectios and ear mites. The only thing that I would add is that poodles need to have the hair in their ears pulled every for to six weeks. If this hasn't been done in a while it may be part of the problem.

i am a groomer and work in a vet clinic. First of all, if your dog has fleas and is scratching, and you bathe the dog, you will stir the fleas up a bit and they will start moving around. Over the counter flea shampoos are okay, but I would NEVER by the topical flea treatment made by Hartz or Sargeant or any other company other than Advantage or Frontline available only at your vet. The cheap ones at the corner store such as Hartz etc, can SERIOUSLY harm your pet. I have seen it all too many times. I dont know how they are allowed to be on the market................Once you bathe your dog in flea shampoo, the fleas should die, but only frontline or advantage will PREVENT fleas. you may want to wash all bedclothes because more than likely, any fleas have laid eggs in your home.

Very likely an ear infection. When dogs are bathed and get water in their ears, it is very difficult to get their "L" shaped ear canals dried back out, especially if they are hairy eared like a poodle. This excess moisture leads to infection. I have almost never seen ear mites in dogs (have owned lots of dogs over the years). Do NOT put anything in an ear without a vet checking them out (especially mineral oil or peroxide). I have a friend who caused her dog to go deaf by putting the wrong stuff in her dog's ears. Don't make that mistake - get your poodle to a vet!

1) your dog may have ear mites..put mineral oil into the ears and drain out excess...it will smother them within a few hours. OR go get ear mite drops
2) poodles are very susceptible to water in their ears giving them infections...always pour rubbing alcohol into the ears after the bath..it will get rid of all water when the dog shakes its head
3) the skin may be irritated from the scratching before .... if so, give her/him a couple of allergy pills twice a day for a few days (Benydril works best).
Take good care of your doggie, I just lost mine a few weeks ago to stomach bloat, it was devastating.
Good luck

Sounds like your poodle might have ear mites. I would take her to the vet and get the proper medication to put in her ears for mites. It is really common for dogs to get ear mites. I buy some powder medication from the vet and also from that Dr. Foster & Smith catalog I get in the mail for ear mites. The powder seems to not bother my poodle near as bad as liquid does. Plus the liquid burns their ears from all of the scratching and irritation. You could either take her to the vet or log onto Dr. Foster & Smith and order the powder for ear mites online. Good luck.

When you wash an animal that fleas, the fleas will sometimes hide in their ears, mouth and eyes. I know, gross huh? But it is true, they will hide to get away from the poisonous soap. Check its ears for any visable sign of fleas, otherwise your dog may have an ear infection, especially if you have recently washed its ears. A trip to the vet may be warranted if you don't notice he has stopped scratching his ear. Smell your dog's ears often to check for signs of infection. If you notice any odor, take him to the vet.
