It depends what mood the cop is in. I tried it and was warned that I could be arrested for disorderly conduct. I haved tried practcing my freedom of speech on several different occasions and sometimes it ended in a disorderly conduct charge and other times it didn't. Like I said it depends on their mood. Calling a cop a fat mother fu**** - no charge. Calling a cop a prick - no charge. Calling a cop an asshole - disorderly conduct. Telling a cop to get the **** outta my house - disorderly conduct. It's your call.

My father who was a county officer always told me that it was not against the law to show an officer your intelligence level with your finger but in the end,it is up to the officer as to whether he wishes to pressure charges for making obscene jestures in public.
Usually a person who does this is someone who is or has been in trouble with the law or who could be running so as a general rule it is a red flag to an officer.
Not a smart idea.

It is not written in law verbatim, but yes it is illegal. In California under Penal Code 647 you can be cited for a whole gammet of things, including this. However, they aren't going to cite you for 647 (flipping the bird), they will find something else to mess with you for. My buddy tried this and he was issued a speeding citation and WAS NOT speeding. It isn't a good idea!!

It all goes back to rule number 1. Do not do anything to bring the attention of a police officer. Rule number 2, if you find yourself around or close by a police officer(except your need to talk to him/her), you shall get away as soon as you can without breaking rule number 1 doing so.

It can be considered disorderly conduct.
It is actually kind of like peeing into a fan. It may not be illegal, but it is definitely stupid.
I can promise you this, you will get the officer's direct attention. And even if you win your case in court, it doesn't erase the night spent in jail with the thugs and junkies.

We'll be watching.

Giving the finger can be a LOCAL offense according to local ordinaces in some towns/cities. It could be associated with public nusance, disorderly conduct. ALSO, IF a child is present, you could open another can of worms. NOT to mention, you will probly be harrassed...Yer better off just smiling and thinking that this officer is a "jack boot" nazi lookin' butt kisser who is just out to punish people cause someone stole his lunch money as a kid.

The cops here will say yes, but if you do your research on the ACLU website or any civil rights information page, you'll find they're again threatening you to make their job easier.

You are free to express your opinion and they can't arrest you for that. But do it carefully, because the pigs will use any trick to provoke an incident of aggression or disruption, and then they'll get you for other charges, but NOT for speaking your mind

Yes, you can. It's considered free speech and is protected by the 1st Amendment.

So go ahead, hold up that one finger, and show everyone what your IQ is.

Don't act suprised if the police officer you flipped off gives you the special attention he thinks you now deserve!

Common sense will tell you, that if you do this, cop or otherwise, you are liable to get punched out.
