Your question is not moronic at all. I'm a single parent, widowed, and raising an autistic son alone. I had the same problem when potty training my son. My son has no other male influences in his life, so it was a very difficult situation.

When my son started preschool he learned a lot from watching the other children. Preschool children do that.

If you have a male in your family that's willing to show him, then that's great. If you don't, you merely sit him down and talk to the boy. Let him know it's no different than peeing at home, but that at a urnial there are usually other guys there. Just let him know to just go and come on out. He'll learn everything else in time, like how to behave IF there are others there. A little thing called "etiquette".

If there is still a problem, have his school councelor talk to him about this. They should have some good ideas as well.

My 2 older sons were peeing in urinals at 3 so i think it is wonderful because you don't have to worry about the nasty public toilets. But Daddy taught them, they just watched and wanted to follow.

Maybe his uncle...or a cousin, someone you know in the family who is comfortable doing the job and you know isn't a possible child molester, unfortunately that is so prevalent now.

I may sound stupid but don't they just have to whip it out, aim it at the urinal and take a wiz.

Its not like showing a little girl how to squat over the toilet.

Get a male family member to take him and show him. My father showed my son, when I was a single mother.

Have a man take him into the bathroom. Does he have a father of a uncle? There is really no difference than peeing in a toilet... or is there?

Any man he feels comfortable with can show him or he can just watch the other men in the bathroom.

I can't believe he hasn't learned this yet. It's pretty simple actually. Find someone you trust to go in with him and I'm sure he will figure it out.
