#8 pellets will damage out to a hundred and 36 feet provided the temperature is around 50 degrees or more. At temperatures of less than 50 degrees the pellet will travel farther due to the air being less dense. With the way a shotgun works it would be hard to do much damage with only one pellet. The average pellet will travel anywhere from 30 yards to 100 yards so be aware of your surroudings when shooting. If you're asking about the whole pattern of shot it could do quite a bit of damage. One pellet could hit a person at 30 yards and hurt like hell but it'll just leave a good sized bruise. Think in terms of being hit by a paintball gun at close range with nothing to protect the spot you've been hit. I've been hit by a stray pellet before and it hurt like hell but it just left a bruise. But this is not excuse not to be safe--never shoot at something you don't intend to shoot/kill.

The range and muzzle velocity will change a little depending if it's a 12 or 20 ga. but I'd say a #8 pellet could still be dangerous out as far as 50 yards. Don't shoot it at anything you don't intend to kill is I guess the moral of this story.

Depends on what you mean by damage.
A paper target would get damage at 50 yards but it depends on what you are shooting at.
The pellet could travel as far as 100 yards depending on elevation.

30 yards will go in your skin and really set you on fire. in other words he can still catch you . and be really pissed off. if you have 1 shot the closer the better.any thing over 30 yards shoot and run. i think that is what you are asking..........that is a regular shotgun ,,,8 inch sawed off change the yards to feet.
