Hi Jay

Here are a few remedies.

Natural Cures

Flower Essences: Rescue Remedy Cream® applied topically, and Crab Apple added to pure filtered water can speed healing.

Herbs: Apply a poultice of equal parts of witch hazel, mugwort, white oak bark, and plantain to affected areas.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment. I suggest several at-home hydrotherapy treatments.
*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Nutritional Supplementation: At the first sign of outbreak take the following nutrients to minimize symptoms: vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E, and zinc. Zinc oxide can also be applied topically.

Topical Treatment: Rinse affected area with apple cider vinegar, and in the evening take a warm bath with apple cider vinegar or cornstarch. Aloe vera gel, witch hazel, baking soda paste, or a paste of activated charcoal powder are also good topical treatments.

Best of health to you

Cheers

When all of the above doesn't bring relief from the itching and spreading, go to the doctor and get a cortizone shot. Then ask for an Rx of Triamcinolone acetonide cream 0.5%.

I haven't heard of eating a poison ivy leaf to cure the malady so you might ask the doctor about that one too.

By the way, bleach doesn't help on the affected area and topical alcohol is a mild source of relief.

Wash the affected area at least once a day and don't take a razor blade to it--though it's tempting.

Baking soda and vinegar (made into a paste works well to stop the itch). If you would rather buy something, then get a mousse called, Dermarest. This stuff works. You can get it at Neighborcare Pharmacies. You apply it to your skin and it has a film that stays on better than other products. It works better than any other over the counter products I have tried.

Actually, there is no cure for poison ivy. But you can treat it until it clears up.

Don't know where you live, but my ex swore by a swim in the ocean to dry his up, (he got it bad). Clear gel (forget the name), by bandaid brand helps the itch. If it goes systemic it's time to go to the doc. I wasn't allergic until my 33 year of life.

I tried this brown soap by "burts bees", (in a health food store), smell like tar. There is something called ivy block you can get at walgreens as a preventative.

Other than that, it's time you need. Good luck.

Well, this is pretty unconventional but I used to be very very allergic to poison ivy and poison oak. When I was about 12 my grandmother told me to eat a poison oak leaf. I looked at her like she was crazy, but it worked! I have never had it again.

THIS IS NOT A CURE FOR POISON IVY BUT YOU MAY WANT TO REMEMBER THIS THE NEXT TIME YOU GET IN TO IT AGAIN.
THE OIL ON THE LEAF IS WHAT CAUSES THE RASH SO IN ORDER TO AVOID THE RASH, WIPE YOURSELF DOWN WITH A RAG (THE AREAS OF YOUR BODY THAT CAME IN CONTACT) SOAKED WITH DIESEL FUEL, STOVE OIL, WD-40 OR KEROSENE, **DO NOT USE GASOLINE** AND THIS WILL BREAK UP THE POISON IVY OIL BEFORE IT GETS INTO THE SKIN, ****NOT RECOMMENDED TO USE ON SENSITIVE SKIN****
NEXT STEP IS TO TAKE A SHOWER TO GET RID OF THE SMELL OF OIL/KEROSENE OFF OF YOU. WORKS GREAT !!
