My dad just came out of his bed room and said that both of his legs hurt like he has charlie horses all over his legs and then he also said that he is really cold its 77 degrees in the house now. I don't know what to do I gave him some Aleve to help with the pain. What else can I do and does anyone know what it is? Oh yea he was hunting today but said that he didn't fall of anything.

Keep his legs and feet covered. The pain meds were a good idea.Have him walk a bit too.

If this persists, make sure he sees a doctor.

If your dad is cold, that may be the reason for the charlie horse. Medically, these are called "Heat Cramps."

Other terms for these are "miner's cramps" and "stroker's cramps," and they are the most benign heat syndrome. In general, only indivisual in good physical condition develope this syndrome.

External tempertures need not to exceed the body temperature... Blood tests usually shows a concentration of the formed elements and a decreased sodium and chloride concentration.

What I would recommend is that you get your dad some rehydration drink e.g. Gatorade or Power Aid to replace the electrolyte balance. ...Causes of heat cramps is depletion of these essential electrolytes.

Hope this answers your question!

Massage his legs rub your hands on his legs and his other body parts that are cold. This will soothe his legs from the pain and make your body warmth warm up his legs. Sit by the fireplace (if you have one), or if you don't have a fireplace, boil hot water and use a face towel to dip it in there. Wring the towel and wipe him with the towel. This should help him with the warmth part. I think he caught influenza (so he is cold, try making some hot chocolate or hot tea for him to drink), and he broke his leg somehow without even falling, he could've bent his legs awkardly, and possibly twisted/broke it and he didn't notice. Sometimes, it takes time for pain to travel. Good luck and all my wishes. Also, take him to the doctor if my tips don't help.

Sweetheart, try to be calm and ask him to describe the pain. Look at his ankles for swelling. Look at his hands as well. I would call your doctor or go to the ER. It could be onset of arthritis (sometimes not a serious case but is a LOT of pain) - or something more serious, like the above person said, clotting. Please contact the doctor.
best of luck and strength to you and your father,
-laura

urgent care comes to mind - he may have been biten by something and not realized it, some spiders inject a numbing agent with venom so you don't feel the bite

I think you should take him to the doctor, or to the hospital if he gets any worse. Good luck.
