You may have experienced the heat working only on the passenger side or the driver's side. One way to check to see if the heater core is getting hot. Behing the glove compartment and just above where the passengers feet would be is a black plastic housing. This will be right next to a round housing which is the blower fan. If the black housing is hot.. your heater core is working. If it is not hot then your heater core is plugged. Your most likely problem is the Blens door. There is actually 2 doors if you have dual climate control. There is a shortcut to getting to these doors and seeing if they work. It's sort of the half A** way of doing thing but it will save you about 7 hours of labor and about $1200 in cost. Solution... open the glove box and with a screwdrive pry the glove box all the way down. You will see directly behing there the black housing to the blens doors. With any type of Roto Zip wheel you will want to cut the opening of the housing then revealing the Blens doors. You may then R&R them as needed. P.S. Prior to cutting check the actuator located there before you cut. It is a triangular piece about the size of small cell phone with 3 screws. This piece should be turning as you increase or decrease the heat. If you have the money bring it into a Jeep Dealership or respected mechanic. If not, this is the easy way of doing it. Good Luck!!!!!!!

The blend door as they would call it, is either broken, or the cable that shifts it is stretched or something. Or someone disconnected the heater core hoses to the heater core. Look at the engine, and see if you got 2 tubes that don't have a hose connected to them. then that's your answer. And most likely, when someone does that, means the heater core has a leak in it. Hope these ideas help some. Good luck.

It is unlikely that the heater core is the problem. The heater core on the Cherokee is pretty durable, unlike the brakes on your vehicle :) The most likely cause is the blend door actuator. This is electric, not vacuum actuated, and they have a tendency to fail on Chrysler products. It is also unlikely, but the heat/air conditioning control module could also be the problem. I hope it is not, very expensive to replace. For giggles, check your anti-freeze. Make sure your radiator is full. being low on anti-freeze will also result in no heat.

i own a repair shop, and there are several things that can cause this to happen, first you need to check ,and see if its getting hot enough to give off any heat, look at the heat hand, and see if its reading right, and feel the radiator hoses and see if there getting hot, then see if it is completely full of coolant ,one that is low wont give off much heat at all,and then check and see if the control unit inside is working right on it,see if it goes to defrost and floor the right way.,also check and see if the heater control valve is letting the coolant flow through the heater hoses,,this is the most common cause for no heat in a jeep,i been at this for 36 yrs,,and i have replaced a lot of heater valves ,but you should be able to find it with this info,,good luck i hope this help,s,,and happy thanksgiving.

Make sure it has plenty of coolant. Check all the vacuum lines. Make sure the blend door actuator moves freely, if you can reach it. There may even be a valve on one of the heater hoses. Make sure it moves freely. Feel the hoses leading in and out of the heater core. WHen the engine is running and up to temp. They should be hot. If not, you have problems with coolant not circulating properly.

Hey yloldbttr! If that actually works you will be my new hero. You diagnosed the problem perfectly. I've already had the car at Jeep and they said its the blend doors or whatever. They want to replace the whole box and charge me 7 hours labor(around $1200 all together). The service manager even admitted to me that usually they are just stuck and not broken. Its worth a shot.. thanks
