Because one quarter of the people in our nation are lazy, on welfare, letting the rest of us support them. So, they sit on their buns watching TV, eating chips and drinking soda or beer. The other quarter is probably legitimate medical problems, and Oreo double stuffs.

I was actually asking myself that very question today while on my lunch break... I went to Wall Mart to buy a DVD so i could watch it at work and i swear three fourths the pop there were overweight... I blame....... THE PARENTS in most cases. I feel bad for the kids because they are predisposed to becoming over weight. They are learning horrible eating habits at an impressionable age.

Stress is a major factor. This nation seems to never take time to slow things down, so people turn to fast food and processed food because it's quick and takes very little of our time. What ever happened to family sit down meals?

Have you ever heard, "no dessert til you finish your dinner!?". Thats why. Americans really have no sense of portion control, or the pace that they eat at. Filling our bellies with full fat food has been drilled into us since we were old enough to eat solid food. And of course fast foods, and prepackaged foods with tons of fat and preservatives don't help either.

Good question. I think it's because in the US we tend to look as food and eating as an activity instead of something we do in order to have the energy to do an activity.
