I know all the facts and how anorexia and bulemia are bad for you. I'm not anorexic or bulemic and don't plan on being so. I just want to know if not eating or throwing up after every meal for a short time will make me lose weight.

It's not likely that in a short time you will lose anything at all. Your body has reserves, so if it thinks it's starving it will pull from its reserve.
The reason it starts to work for bulemics is because eventually there is no food reserve. With annorexics the body uses its reserve up and most annorexics are also exercise fanatics as well.
If you need to lose weight join weight watchers, I joined after the birth of my 3rd child and lost 60 pounds. You can safely lose 2+ pounds per week if you are determined and stick to it, it's really easy.

Yeh, it will make you lose weight, but it will also make you extremely dehydrated and you could lose massive amounts of Potassium, which is a major part of your heart function.
If you know the dangers of anorexia and bulimia, then you know that not eating or throwing up even for a short time would obviously be dangerous to you, because you would have to do it for quite a while to get the results you seem to want.
Wise up, eat right and do some exercise - that is the only true way to lose weight - and believe it or not, you'll lose it faster that way and it's healthy. If you drink soft drinks - and you stop drinking them, you can lose up to 15 lbs in only a matter of a couple of weeks.

No, and you'll ruin your health. Try eliminating ALL junk and processed foods, including refined sugar. Eat only fresh fruits, whole grains, lean unprocessed meat, fresh vegetables, and drink a quart or two of warm water or herbal tea every day. No soda, not even diet (artificial sweetners are very bad for you). But stevia should be okay. Avoid intense natural sugars like maple sugar and honey. Make sure you cook with healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil. Ghee (clarified butter) is okay too, in small to moderate amounts).

Add at least a half hour a day of vigorous exercise--just walking if that's all you can manage--and you will lose. Especially if you're under 30.

Yeah, not eating and throwing up will help you lose weight.. and important body fluids and vitamins and nutrients- and as soon as you start eating again you'll gain all that weight back and then some because your body will want to recover.
You say you're not anorexic or bulimic, but if you plan on doing that you are.
Is losing weight temporarily worth risking your health? Or starting a lifelong problem?

Yeah, if you had to choose just don't eat, but you need to find a better way because as soon as you start eating again you will gain it back because your body will be in shock from no caloric intake and will absorb everything you put in it. You know people who don't eat for a long time have a hard time using the bathroom because of retention....just eat fruits and vegetables...that will work and can be a lifelong lifestyle change.

victoria Please don't even consider this course of action. You may be considering this for a short time but it can become a habit. you have not mentioned how old you are but i would suggest you are very young. as others have said there are many reasons not to do this most of which are right. You seem to be going through an image problem and it is important that you address this now. not eating and throwing up will cause very bad acid reflux in later life, the acid you expel will burn your asophogus and eat the enamel from your teeth. you could suffer very bad breath and gum disease. your skin will become damaged and your eyes get dark circles. as i mentioned this may become habit or even an ilness given time opening the possibilty ofdamage to internal organs and bone disease. a friend of mine had a dream, she wanted to become a dancer. she started doing what you are considering. for her it became a habit. it damaged her kidneys and her liver function. worse she started suffering a bone disease, this ended her dream. if you want to loose weight do it sensibly and slowley that way the weight will stay off. if you do this thing your body will deposit surpluss food (however little you eat) as fats for use later because it will assume that food is scarce. so when you resume "normal diet" you will cause future and more severe weight battles. please don't consider this course of action. is momentary loss of weight worth years of illness and further weight issues? even to having children in later life. please dont ruin your young life for momentary vanity.

It won't. I've tried it, and although there was a temporary weight loss, you can't keep it up for that long. So you give up and eat again, and gain back all the lost pounds. The medical reason for this occurrence is that your metabolism slows down, which can cause you to actually gain weight rather than lose it.

yes for a short time. Your body has a starvation reflex that will make you store more fat when you start eating again. So that's not the way to lose weight. Diet and exercise is the only way.

You need help, this can become very serious if you go with either choice. Once you start throwing up you wont be able to stop. It is a very serious disease, and will eventually put you into a hospital. If you know the facts stick to them. You are pretty much contradicting yourself.

Just so you know, you are talking like an anorexic, so it is already in your head. Just a matter of time before your body will become one if you start throwing up your food. Be smart...don't start.
