You are correct. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant. The medication book that I have says it MAY be addicting. Obviously, you doctor prescribed it because he/she feels that you need it. The dose you are taking is the lowest.
Side effects: sleepiness, dizziness.(take it at bedtime) Drop in blood pressure if standing up suddenly or changing position suddenly. These are just some. Your pharmacist must have given you a paper about this medication,if not, go back and ask for one.

yes it is an anti-depressant
it can be addictive if you take it longer than the doc tells you to.
side effects can be dizziness
lightheartedness
dry mouth
but they do go away after your body gets used to the meds
it will also help you to sleep

Do you mean amitriptyline aka elavil, If you do be careful my mother-in-law was taking this drug and it caused her mental disturbances. But then if you are taking it don't stop unless you are graduated off it.Do research and make your own decisions. Good luck
