I'm sure you'll be told you're reading the wrong version of the bible. everytime someone finds something bad in one of them, there's either a contradictory statement for rebuttal or it's just the wrong version.

This text is dated to the 5th century A.D. That is over 450 years after the events. It is for this reason alone that the story would not be included in the New Testament. To be included, the book had to have three conditions:

1) They must have Apostolic authority, in that they had been written by or for an Apostle.

2) They had to be consistent with the rule of faith practiced by the churches at that time.

3) They had to have been accepted and used by those churches.

This story of Joseph offers nothing of a spiritual nature, and as some commenters have mentioned, it is disgusting.

As a Christian believer, I have never heard of such a book in the New Testament.
I don;t believe that God would have chosen a young twelve year old girl to bear His Son. The mother of Jesus had to be matured enough to raise
and care for Him , using her motherly instincts which most twelve year
old girls do not have..

A ninety year od Joseph is also very unlikely.. This vast difference in age, is far from the picture we all know of the Family of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus.

Also, how would a ninety year old Carpenter find the strength to perform his Fatherly duties?

I'm not sure how old Joseph was but during those times the people were still in the "go forth and multipy" stage. It was not uncommon for a man to have 30-50 offspring and more than 1 wife and also the wife's maids.

Nope he's not!!!! the average life span of the people that time in Israel, according to the archeologists, is 35 for women and 42 for men........... so it is impossible that Joseph is 90 years old!!!! Mary is between 12-15 years old when they got married because thats the marrying age that time....

well, there is a lot of contradictory information regarding exactly how old Mary was and anything for that matter about Joseph. And since none of us were actually there, why don't we just try trusting and believing God and stop trying to find reasons without foundation or understanding to bring about doubt and dissention within the body.

my personal opinion is that, as far as I know and remember, Joseph married Mary after being a widower so the young maid could take care of his house. so, we can assume that Joseph had another children. If his age had been given to us, many had simply stated that "Jesus DID have siblings". These had been if existed (probably they did) stepsisters or stepbrothers for Jesus.not blod relatives.

We know few about Joseph, so it's really hard to tell.

I'm not intneding to be derogetory here. I read one historical theory that he married her out of pitty becasue she was raped and became pregnant. The reality of the time and place that they lived in supported the idea. I doubt he could have lived to be 90 years old in that environment in those day. It was violent, malnutrtion was standard in all people. Everyone worked their fingers to the bone.

I did not know they had Viagra back then!
Did you know that according to this story Joseph was psychic? I am sure they were not thrilled about that in The Bible.
