I am a police officer and I don't always arrest for possession of marijuana. Sometimes, I just make some poor pot head who spent his last 40 bucks on a bag of weed, who should have spent it on milk and diapers for his kid, sprinkle it out on the side of the road.
But to answer your question, no. I respect officers who use their head and use their discretion wisely, not just make arrests because they can.

Nope. I feel sorry for our local police dept., where the uninformed/University potheads/liberal socialists here in Santa Cruz just voted in a measure directing them to make it the lowest priority on their response list. It already is low on the list, obviously stabbings, etc. get first responses. The real agenda is that the people behind this now want to form a "Citizen Review Board" to "look into" (hassle) each time a cop does cite someone for this offense. Just another reason Santa Cruz attracts so much riff-raff and drug activity.
This at a time when shooting & gang activity has hit an all time high for our city. Marijuana does not contribute to a law-abiding mentality, to good parenting, safe driving, quality employees, and countless other fallout that is highly evident here.
I respect our officers even more for being willing to work in such an atmosphere of idiot PC priorities, dealing with an admitedly socialist City Council, and the low pay in our area that accompanies all these "percs".
On a final note, you can bet that potheads' disrespect for lawful conduct and Law Enforcement would just grow by leaps and bounds if things were pushed to the extent that you describe.

Yes and no. In some states possion is just a ticket, and in others it will get you arrested even for a marijuana seed. so ,If someone got a ticket and did not get arrested and the Police Officer was doing his/her job. But ,If the person had possion and nothing happened to him/her I would be pissed off and report the officer for not doing his/her job

Are you still trying to convince the police not to arrest you. The police arrest people who commit crimes. Possession of marijuana is a crime. If your following along police arrest people for possession of marijuana because it is a crime.

No. A crime is a crime. Once a criminal isn't arrested and/or prosecuted there is no society.
A department that didn't enforce the law would loose my respect for them.

Most definitely. They have so much more important business to attend to, they don't need to be clergymen with guns as well. Now they are being asked to arrest people who smoke cigarettes. What better way to emasculate and demoralize the police than to litter their jobs with silliness.

No. If law enforcement turns it's back on anything that is unlawful, why should that command respect?

no, a officer does not make the laws, he does not judge the law, he does not decide to ingore the law,
He merely inforces the laws on the books, if he will not do that, he needs to be fired.
