we see dark clouds and infer rain. We hear the door slam and infer someone has arrived. We see a frowning face and infer the person is angry. Our friend is late and we infer she is being inconsiderate. This sounds simple to me, but apparently there's alot of people that just dont get it, my questions is.....the root of an argument sometimes is just plain miscommunication, and whey miscommunication occurs? well i think because sometimes people just dont have COMMON SENSE....is the lack of common sense the root of all arguments?

I don't think so much as it is common sense, as it is the lack of observation. You also have to consider there are an infintessimal number of other possibilites. You just have to select from those that seem most plausible.

Dark clouds could also indicate a fire is nearby.
A door slamming could be the wind, or a draft closing it.
A frowning face could indicate sadness or depression.
A late person may of been delayed.

You can't always just infer, or assume something, you have to keep your mind open to different possibilites and alternative considerations. And not taking a variety of possibilites into consideration can also lead to arguments because you may have a singular mindset. Or as far as many women are concerned, men don't admit when they're wrong.

It's not a lack of common sense, but a lack of faith that differences can be reconciled. When people give up trying to communicate, the misunderstanding cannot be corrected.

My mother explained it this way to me, that communication was not 2 people, but more like 6 people talking at once.

People communicate on 3 levels,
(1) their true thoughts/beliefs/feelings, or the "truth" for them
(2) their "expression" of it
(3) their "perception" of the other person's viewpoint
To understand one person is hard enough; for two people to see "eye-to-eye" takes nothing less than divine intervention.
This is a daily miracle that too many of us take for granted.

The problem I find is that any misperception tends to be mutual on both sides, yet we usually cannot see this. People tend to self-project their own biased perception onto the other person; without understanding that the other person is doing the same. So they both deadlock, and judge or blame the other. However, in cases where people do talk it out and realize the mutual misunderstanding on both sides, there is hope for forgiveness and reconciliation as equals. Again this requires common faith.

Given the unique way people think and communicate and perceive, it is amazing to me that people can understand each other at all. The fact that we haven't blown up the planet yet, despite longstanding conflicts that still lead to war, tells me there is more hope than hopelessness to the human condition.

It's not true across the board that the root of argument is miscommunication, although it is true in some cases.

Miscommunication occurs because although on the surface of things we may appear quite similar, we often have radically different ideas about principles, objects, experience, time, loyalty, and so forth. I say "red" and you see candy-apple while I see brick. This isn't lack of common sense--it is a total difference in our perceptions of the world, which are shaped by experiences that are varied and multifarious.

Just because a facial gesture was misinterpreted, doesn't mean that person had a lack of common sense. And no, I don't think the lack of common sense is the root of "all" arguments, but it does spark some.

No. I think you are mistaking common sense with assumptions. When a door slams you can assume someone came in but what if it was the wind or maybe someone went out? I think common sense would tell you not to assume something if you don't know for sure.

Quite possibly, a lack of common sense IS the root of all arguments, however, one must also consider that we each have our own definitions of what is common, and what is sense.

Ultimately, it is our ideologies that bring on arguments.

Hope this helps!

The answer to being late with your girl is not to explain or even try to use reason. Beg forgiveness and buy her a rose.

Peace can never exist until each can make an argument for the other side, .... and mean it.
