when people breath in they breath IN oxygen. and when they breath out it's carbon dioxide. so, when you are giving CPR don't you blow CO2 into their bodies?? how does it still work if they aren't getting oxygen?

The average amount of oxygen in the air is 20.9476 percent. The body exhales approximately 17 percent oxygen. Using only 3 percent allows us to maintain a critical level of oxygen in the blood stream to a patient by using rescue breathing. The body will use the normal amount of oxygen that it needs to keep the organs viable until the heart is restarted by either an electrical charge to the heart to reset the rhythm or advance drugs to control the rhythm. CPR keeps a person able to be brought back to life. Without the oxygen pumped through the blood stream, the brain will have adverse reactions to oxygen deprivation in less then 10 minutes.

The air we breath in is approximately 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen. When we exhale, the oxygen percentage is down to about 15 %. So when giving CPR the air you are blowing into them has a little less oxygen than normal, but that is better than not breathing at all.

The air we breathe is only 20% oxygen. That is enough to start a person breathing with CPR. But it also has the be accompanied with the compressions unless the victim has a heart beat, then you don't do the compresions. The amount of CO2 we breathe out is negligible. Like I saiid it is 20% O2 and that is all that is needed.

You don't breathe in pure O2 or breathe out pure CO2. When you exhale after a very deep inhalation, you have a little more O2 in that breath than when you breathe normally.

Yes, the person is getting less oxygen than if they were breathing, but they are still getting more oxygen than if nothing were being done.

Inspired air is roughly 20% oxygen.
Expired air is typically something like 15% oxygen.
Only 25% of the oyxgen breathed in is exchanged into the blood.

It's not great, but it's better than nothing.

thats a really good point, i cant seem to find any info on it though. i must not matter because CPR saves lives
