I can't speak for the apostles but I sure know that I'm not all that empty of myself! I often think what it would be like to live a life like that. I heard a quote once, I'm not sure where...something like, "the world has not yet seen the effect of one man completely given over to (serving) Jesus Christ."

The Apostles were human and did not have the holy spirit to keep them before the day of Pentecost so they had no power to overcome, to empty oneself is just to let Jesus come in and fill you complete with his spirit, to lay down your life at his feet and let him take it and mold it to his will, not many really give it all to him, we try to keep back parts of ourselves. I do wished that I could say that I have done that< I try, But i am afraid I have failed miserably.

This is a hard pill to swallow. Jesus specifically said that we are to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him. Far too many Christians are denying themselves. no one wants to go through trails and tribulations, pain and suffering. Even if it's for Jesus! Look at the lives the Apostles lived and tell me how many people today would be willing to undergo the same torment they went through for the sake of the kingdom of God. I sincerely pray that the Lord finds me worthy to drink from the cup He drank from.

I think the closer one is willing to get to God and the more time they are able to devote to a closer relationship with him the more of the world they let go of. I believe I am open to God and have a relationship with him, but I do not devote my life entirely to the cause.

It means when you let go of who you are in the world. Your let go of your worldy mind, thoughts, and goods. If you are full of yourself or all about what you've got, Jesus will not manifest himself in you. He wants us to humble ourselves before Him, not be boastful.

GREAT QUESTION. MORE THAN MOST. IM AN EVANGELIST AND PREFER TO SPEND MY TIME IN CONVERSATION WITH THE LORD, UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE TO WORK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND THESE DAYS GODS CALLING ME ON IT. WE ALL HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS OUR TEMPORARY LIFE AND THE ONE TO COME IS THE PERMANENT ONE. HALLELUJAH TO THE LAMB OF GOD! SEE I JOHN 2:6
