The Marines are the only fighting unit we have left. Though I was in the Army I was in charge of two Marine platoons at Fort Lee and was impressed, hell no I was in awe! A Afro American who was either a civilian or a member of the Army asked another Afro American (Marine) how many brothers were in his company ending it with brother. The Marine said we don't have any blacks and I am not your damn brother, they are motioning to a gaggle of Marines who could have been a poster for the UN, (white, yellow, brown). The questioner looked as if someone slapped him silly I know as I looked the same. It was so hot we went to a heat warning to unblouse our boots and walk not run or march. They ran for three blocks before I caught them. The mess Sergeant told the E-1 and 2's they could only have one glass of milk and the gunny ripped the screen door off and chased him down the street. A Army company marched through a Stop sign and even though we had right-away I ordered a halt and they halted but when the Army marched by the Marines beat the **** out of them. When the MPs came I told them my version which made the Marine adopt me. No, not brained washed TRAINED and Motivated. That is why they get more kills with less casualties. Airborne!!
God Bless You and The Southern People.

If you believe what you heard about boot camps and drill sergeants why consider joining? In truth, what some may perceived as brain washing is actually being trained to be a disciplined marine or any member of the US Armed Forces. So if you cannot take discipline, forget about getting anywhere in the military.

I can't speak for the Marines, but as a former sailor I can say that the purpose of boot camp isn't to brainwash, but to get you ready to be a part of the US military. This involved, for me, making me want to be a sailor more than I've ever wanted anything. I have known Marines who say the same thing about the eagle, globe and anchor.
You will think differently upon leaving boot camp, but only because you will be focused.

definite, idiots have a tendency to confuse practise for brainwashing. anytime they're compelled to take orders and study discipline they scream "brainwashing!" And what David the jackass down there would not comprehend is that that's been traditionally documented and shown that lots of our enemies for the time of historic previous have easily feared the U.S. Marines. The Germans in WW1, the jap in WW2, the chinese language and Koreans interior the Korean conflict or perhaps the VietCong all feared the Marines... they were fierce combatants, a lot so as that Mao ordered 2 divisions be despatched in reserve to backup one which couldn't wreck a unmarried Marine position in Korea in 1950. maximum of those similar "ferocious" Marine Corps veterans got here abode to guide completely well-known and useful lives. Sound like a gaggle of brainwashed psychopaths to you? Hmm... i imagine no longer. basically quite properly experienced and disciplined men who did their jobs. Sorry that your jealousy of Marines motives you to make stupid and ignorant statements.

I heard that too, and before my then-boyfriend (now husband) went everyone told me he would come back meaner and mindless. Well, none of that was true. He came back with respect, pride, honor, goals, and values. Marine Corps. training is the best of the best. We wouldn't want a bunch of untrained boys fighting for our country. Marine Corps. makes men.

Not really brainwashing.. Just more like brain molding...
They will train you and make you more disciplined and more of a gentlemen..
Being a man really isnt a matter of age, its a matter of how you act and the drill instructors will make you a man... So they'll basiclly mold you into the men inside of you worthless spit bucket.

I think that all soldiers are broken down during bootcamp in some way, shape or form. You have to be....you have to learn to be able to pull a trigger and take someone's life if you go to war, and continue mission. The military isn't for wimps.

Hahaha! No, not even close! If anything, the Drill Instructors use "reverse psychology"- they'll tell you what a worthless bucket of spit you are in whatever you do, to the point that you'll go all out to prove him wrong. That's the way it worked for me, anyway. Hell, I wanted to do everything perfect in order to get that guy off my back. Eventually, they hand out very limited praise, but it's up to you to build yourself up, contrary to popular belief.

No. They are drilled in order to be able to "keep their wits when all others are losing theirs." It simply prepares them mentally for the rigors of war and combat.
