It could be fleas, check your cat for fleas and if you are seeing them contact a vet and get some flea preventative. DO NOT get the over the counter type you are wasting your money....they don't work. It could also be allergies or sores from the other cat and your cat is slow to heal. I would try to find a vet and get your cat in for an appointment.

It could be "mange mites" along with infection making matters worse. If you cannot get it to the vet soon!, then treat the wound. Clip hair around the wound and clean with a warm water/Epsom salt solution solution, and leave uncovered. Get it to a vet as soon as you can. Infection is somewhere on/in your cat which will also give it a temperature. Check it, the normal temp. is about 101.5 F . Lubricate the thermometer with vegetable oil or mineral oil before inserting in the cat's anus.

Several things come to mind. First, if the sores are not healing I would be concerned that your cat has Felv/Fiv. Has he ever been tested?
Next is what is your flea control like?
A food intolerance can also cause this. What kind of food is he eatting?

My dog gets hot spots that are open sores. I've heard cats can get them too. He gets them by licking them and they easily become infected. However, it might many different things. You should try to get him to the vet as soon as possible. Good Luck, Hope your kitty is OK.

If he has sores that won't go away and he won't leave alone, it IS severe enough to take him to an emergency vet. HELLO!!! Have you ever heard of infections???
