Bound's hubby here:

Simply ... you CAN'T!

In New Jersey, air rifles, pellet guns, BB guns, etc. are considered FIREARMS and require the purchaser to have a NJ Firearms Identification Card ... our state's version of a rifle and shotgun permit. And if you are trying to get a pistol version of an air rifle, pellet gun, or BB gun, you need a New Jersey Permit to Purchase a Pistol!

No one will legally sell an air type gun to residents of NJ without the proper permits, and will not ship them here!

Sorry ... it's the law we must live with!

In addition to C_F_45's excellent advice, may I suggest you consider a .22LR rifle, purchased for you by your parents? That is, of course, assuming you live somewhere that it would be safe to hunt these animals with a rifle (i.e. no houses near you, no other farmers' barns close by, etc.) and that your parents are willing to buy you one. At 50 yards, you'll be fine with a .22LR. The animals won't be scared off from a few shots, either... But even if they are, you state that you are trying to keep the pests away from the garden. That would mean that it would be effective to simply shoot one or two pest animals with the .22LR, then watch as the rest scatter, right? Now, some legal issues. First off, even with an air rifle, you might not be able to shoot certain birds legally. Do you know how to tell the difference between a songbird species and a pest bird species? Is there a season on rabbit or whatever squirrel species you're having problems with? Because if you don't know the answers to those questions, odds are you don't know enough to do what you plan. I'd suggest you get the answers to the questions I've asked, and move on from there. Depending on where you live, you might be able to shoot rabbit and squirrel out of season if they are damaging your garden, but then again, you might not. And I'd suggest you leave the birds alone and use a scarecrow, or get a couple of "barn cats," as it were. The garden my parents and I have hasn't had a single problem with birds, probably because of the two cats that hang around it. EDIT: Another reason to get a .22LR instead of an airgun: most .22LR rifles cost less than $200.

Like the other guy said, you can't.
No one will ship to you, it's against the law.
You're better off going somewhere and buying
it and bringing it back. Just make sure you register it.
