I was picking up some dog poop in the yard that was several weeks old. To my surprise, a lot of piles looked hairy. Is this fungus or can poop grow a beard?

When I pick up dog poop in the back yard sometimes it has like a moldy fungus on it. I bet its the same thing. I think it grows on there from the moisture in the grass and sitting a long time. Yuck!

The poop you found has probably evolved and is growing beards for heat control on the innards of the poopoo.

Well, if the dog ingests hair, it will sh#t it out virtually unchanged. One of mine does this after eating a squirrel, or feathers when she gets a bird. Talk about a tickle.

Yeah, my dogs all have hairy poop..makes it hold together better when I pick it up.

dogs groom themselves by licking so it is possible it came out of your dog that way or it ate an animal and ita is passing it

Same thing happened to my dog. I took him to the vet, and she told me it was round worms.
Be carful, it is contageous to humans, and can lead to blindness in humans. don't let him/her lick you in the face.
Take him to the vet to get the medication, mine was three doese over three months

lmao! i have really long hair, and apparently our dog swallowed one, he had a poop hanging off his butt by MY hair! LOL
boyfriend had to pull it out ( its really long)
