Finally an answer to the question..
Once upon a time all dogs were invited to
a party. When they arrived at the party
they were required to leave their
butts at the door. All the dogs hung them
on hooks by the door.

The party went on and the dogs were
having a great time. All of a sudden
somebody yelled, FIRE!. The dogs raced to
the door and grabbed whichever butt
they could grab first.
In an effort to find their own butt.
that is why, to this very day,
dogs sniff each other's butts!!!!

When God created dogs, he called a meeting to discuss the general rules and such of being a dog. As a sign of respect all the dogs took off their tails at the door (similar to our hat removal). Some smart-*** yelled "Fire" in the middle of the meeting and all the dogs ran out grabbing any tail they could find in their hurry to escape. So thats why dogs go around sniffing butts now...they are all looking for their own tails!

They sniff each other's butts because they want to get to know each other. Dogs have anal sacs on either side of the inside of their anus. Every dog has his or her own unique smell. It's a dog's way of saying "hi". That's also why they sniff people's crotches. It can be embarassing, but they're just trying to be friendly.

A sniff of the rear tells a dog all sorts of things, including what the other dog likes to eat, its general health, and if a female pooch is pregnant.

They sniff other dogs butts to get aqainted with the dog, its like shaking hands with a person you just met

Much like we shake hands, it can tell us a lot about another. Dogs smell each others butts to find out rank, status, intact or spayed/neutered, male/female, young/old. Basically their calling card.

It's a way of dog communication, & tracking one another by means of scent.

psychaos said: Because every dogs anus has it's own disgustingly pungent region, and that way they remember the dog..."Oh, thats Clarence, his butt smells like fish"
