You're asking why do children run away from you? Maybe because you look awfully scary to them or atleast your approach could be a little intimidating...
For children, first impressions always last... Here are a few tips to do....
1. It all starts with a smile. If you approach a kid who doesn't even know you and you put a sour face on, he/ she will definitely be scared.
2. Make funny faces... Even though a kid doesn't know you, making silly faces like making your cheeks big or hide and seek will make a kid laugh...
3. Make or mimic funny noises such as an animal or any weird sound that will catch his/ her attention...
4. If a kid still refuses to go with you, be patient. wait for a little while and then do step 2 and 3 again...
5. Be silly and playful as kids' attention span is very limited. When they become close to you and demand attention. Be sure to be ready to play

The way you suck your lips up into your mouth like that, it is no wonder they run, they probably think they are the next thing that is going to disappear in there.

they learn it at school in the D.A.R.E. program. Actually my kids would probably think they saw you on the Discovery Channel, and run out of fear for their life !
