Are shingles catching?

Yes. Shingles can be spread from an affected person to children or adults who have not had chickenpox. Instead of developing shingles, these people develop chickenpox. Once they have had chickenpox, people cannot catch shingles (or contract the virus) from someone else. Once infected, however, persons have the potential to develop shingles later in life.

Shingles are contagious, to persons that have not previously had chicken pox, as long as there are new blisters forming and old blisters healing. Once all of the blisters are crusted over, the virus can no longer be spread.

If your child has had chickenpox, then there's absolutely no problem, unlike many viruses VZV doesn't mutate and thus, immunity is retained for life.

If your child has not had the chickenpox then there is a reasonable risk that it could pick up the virus from it's great-grandmother, obviously this depends on the level and duration of contact - the longer and closer it is, the higher the risk. However, for an unknown reason, children are much less likely to be infected by an adult as they are by another child.

A 10 month old is slightly younger than the traditional age range of 1-6 years but should not be expected to suffer more or be at higher risk of complications than any other child who is infected with VZV.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.

Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.

My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

Shingles Contagious To Babies

No. Shingles is the same virus as chicken pox so if the child is protected from then they are protected from the other. You have to remember though that the vaccination is not 100%.

If you are around someone with shingles you can get them, however some think that shingles are not conagious, but i know that they are.it is a chicken pox virus, however if you have never had chicken pox you cannot have shingles.chicken pox comes first, and the germ lies dormat in your body,if your baby could contact anything it would be chicken pox,not shingles.that is why grown people get shingles, because they have usually already had chicken pox.My sister was in severe pain in her back and we were visiting her,my Mom and I,anyway my mom could not see anything on her back, but she was rubbing my sisters back trying to help ease her pain,2 days later my sister broke out in blisters and was in severe pain, the doctor said she had shingles....about one month later my Mom broke out with a severe case of shingles, even though she had only rubbed my sisters back.I was around my Mom during the time she had shingles, which took months for her to get over.Several months later i began to have back stabbing pains in my back,it really scared me,and i was in lots of pain,,several days after being in pain,i broke out with shingles...I went to a specialist, and he told me that being under stress could cause a break out of shingles,or being around someone with shingles could cause it.So you or your husband could or could not have shingles IF you have already had chicken pox,if you have never had chickenPox then you would get chicken pox,not shingles....Chicken pox first, shingles later, same virus but thats how it works.I certainly hope your grandmother is better because shingles are very painful.I had mine for 4 months, and the pain damages some nerves and for a year after, when weather changes i would get a stinging itch where they had been...

I don't think I would let my baby near her if I was you. Has your daughter already had chicken pox?? Because if she hasn't had them before she may get them if she was exposed to your grandmothers shingles. Take her to her pediatrician and explain the situation and see what the doctor says, medical advice would be needed just to be on the safe side.
