Do you think that the pre-lit Christmas trees are worth buying, do the lights burn out fast?

Can you find replacement bulb when the lights burn out?

I went ahead and bouth one last night at Garden Ridge for $250, keeping the receipt in case I find a better one before thursday. Thanks to all for your advice, I will pick best answer soon.

My point in using pre-lit is not based on laziness, plus we are going to add some strings of colored lights. My workload is SOOO heavy this time of year, I have one day, Thanksgiving Day to do all of my decorating, and I like to do "Griswold" tpye Christmas decoration. My hubby wanted me to do the pre-lit, as our old tree is way tore up, had it for years. I am allergic, cannot tolerate real trees, plus "save the planet" is always a good reason to use aftificial.

I have had mine for two Christmas' and I love it!!!! I can't imagine putting up lights again. It's very simple and your tree should come with extra lights and also a source listed on the manual where to buy replacement bulbs. If you are going to buy one, do invest on a pricier one. You get what you pay for. But what I would do is go with your old tree or a real one this year and wait until after Christmas when everything Holiday goes on huge sale, then you can get a really good one and not feel like you got ripped off for a tree. That's what I did and I love it!!!

I just bought one. Really for the price of less than 100 I don't care it it only lasts two years. I have light strands that are more than a decade old and still work fine with minimal effort in replacing bulbs. The lights on the prelight(on mine anyhow) are just like the strand lights you would find on most trees, just attached. the one we just bought replaced a fiber optic tree that was great and before that had a huge 8 foot tall by 5 foot round tree . This one came in three peices and was put together in less than a minute. the best part is not having to pack it away in 5 box(they never fit in the same box) this one will easily go back in the same box. for me, yes this was a smart buy.


the lights are also very easy to replace and easy to find at mendards or lowes. I'll bet even the evil walmart has some too.

I have a 9 ft pre-lit. It's 4 years old and no lights are burnt out yet. Mine is designed to just have the individual bulbs burn out...the whole string doesn't go. It has 1200 lights on it, and I usually add 800 colored lights.

I bought a pre-lit tree last year in the After Christmas Sales -- and ... after all the discounts -- it was only $20! (NO KIDDING!)


So if you can wait that long -- go AFTER Christmas and purchase that Pre-Lit tree for the next few years of use. The one I had before this one lasted several years -- and it was definitely worth the price.

OH, by the way -- the Fiber Optic Trees really do look nice in the dark -- they sparkle very nicely -- that is what I purchased last year, and I am glad I did so.

I don't like artificial trees, and a pre-lit one just pushes that feeling farther. Half the fun of a Christmas tree is setting it up, stringing the lights, and hanging the ornaments. I like to do it over the entire Holiday Season, and if friends come over, they can pitch in and help.
Decorating the tree is also a very good creative activity, especially for kids.

I have had pre-lit trees for years. They have saved my sanity!! I'm very left handed and I cannot string the lights to look good. I have not had trouble with them burning out. In fact, I just gave my daughter my huge pre lit tree that I used for 3 years. Before that, I had one that lasted about 7 or 8 years. It actually got ragged looking and the lights were still going. I'm going Monday and buy a SKINNY pre lit tree. I LOVE THEM.

I had a 2ft fiber optic tree that lasted me 5 yrs so I think it was worth it. It doesn't have bulbs and such to break. I don't know if I would spend what they want for a regular 6ft tree. I'd have to look at them first and then decide.

a friend of mine bought a 6ft fibre optical tree two years ago and although it takes the fun out of decorating and it looks bare during the day, it looks very nice when switched on in the night :)

i don't think it'd be worth it. if some of the lights burn out that would be annoying. putting lights on a tree really doesn't take that long.
