Isn't it wonderful to be a cat owner. If we lose one we seem to get another and another to love.

My husband and I are retired. Our cats not only give us something to do, but something we love to do. We are both enjoy being at home, and the cats help to keep that from getting boring. They are there when you feel great, and when you don't feel so great, they give you a reason to get moving. They are a great addition to a retired person's life and we have all the time necessary to care for them properly. We are spending our kids' inheritance on the cats, but the cats have been a lot nicer to us than our kids ever were....just joking.

Like another person answering here, I'd never thought of myself as a cat person. I didn't dislike them, but had little interest; I didn't really 'get' pets like other people did.

Some months ago we went by an obviously stray kitten on the street; she was extremely friendly, so we stopped. She sucked up quite nicely, and we picked up some litter and a few tins of food. Thinking such a sweet thing had to have an owner desperately looking for her, etc.

No owner came forward, though, which was a 'thank heavens' thing fairly quickly; I'd have been quite pained to lose her. I'm disgusted with whoever tossed a sweet, about five-month-old kitten onto a downtown street; not really a surprise that we didn't find an owner.

She's now a member of the family, and I'm now a cat person; we're about to get her a 'brother.'

I find her fascinating. I don't see how we sound any different from anybody else in the building, but she runs to the door when 'Mom' or 'Dad' is coming home, well before 'Mom' figures out that 'Dad' is on his way in.

Playing with her is a lot of fun, too. It amazes me at how well she seems to have figured out what's play and what's not; I saw her eat a bug once, and she was quite the serious little killing machine. But the claws are retracted when it's time to 'kill' the stuffed mouse on the string.

It's making me more 'grounded' -- having a cat does a lot to turn a house into a home and all that. It's also good for the relationship; the other half loves the cat too, so -- well, more love all around.

She (the cat) was not too too skittish when we first brought her home, but not wildly friendly, either. We were very happy when she started to like us; we've tried our best, and been rewarded with a pretty nice, pretty well-adjusted kitty. Fur-covered little ball of love that she is.

It also carries some interesting health lessons. Her fur has become more and more glossy since we've been forking over for the 'premium' food; she's had a few little growth spurts. She never goes outside, but we do take the time to play with her and run her around the place with a laser pointer. That she seems healthy (and, according to the vet, she is) is a nice reward.

Re. "Isn't it wonderful to be a cat owner" -- yes.

My cat changed my whole life actually. When I got him I was a party girl and really had no goals. I feel in love with him and learned so many lessons from him. Unconditional love, companionship, responsibility. I started to want to do something in the animal world. Since I got him five years ago, i have went from drug and alcohol user, waitress, high school drop-out to Honor's graduate, Business Technology Grad, working on my Business Management Degree. Clean and sober, Member of the ASPCA Volunteer for the Morgan Co. Humane Society, and I work in an animal hospital. I am also doing my thesis on scientific animal research. So literally, everything in my life changed when I got my beloved Coconut. We are best friends. I am full-time employee and a full-time student and money is scarce. Those of us who followed our passion to care for animals will never be wealthy in dollars, but my sweet angel has made me rich beyond words. Everything I do in my life, revolves around trying to pay back even a little of what this animal has taught me. I never had children and I suppose this is why he has had such a profound effect in my life. Some people do not understand why I love him so much, but I think God sent him to me. I wanted to tell you too, He is super smart and undersatands over twenty comands. He was trained on a leash and harness, so we go for a walk almost everyday. He knows commands like sit, lay, roll over, jump, heal, open, stop, and many more. I have just completed teaching him how to evacuate in case of a fire. By setting off the alarm and showing him in a panic voice, to go through the cat door. I say go Cokey, run, and now when he hears the smoke alarm he runs out the door. Also, he is house broke. I swear I would not take a million dollars for him. Maybe I am the crazy cat lady, but I don't care. Thanks for helping out our little furry friends. Yes it is wonderful, sadly My Tigger died in April, he just went to sleep on the front lawn (18 years old) what a friend he was.My husband died 2 years ago Tigger would always comfort me when I was down.if i came home from shopping or from work to my empty house(Tigger didn't aways come in straight away)I would sometimes sit and cry, he always turned up, like he sensed I was not right and seeming to say in his way "look Mum I'm here". he would rubs his drippy nose on my wet face and purr.often licking away my tears.yes Cat owners are truly blessed. Its off to the animal sanctuary for me soon I want another Tigger.

I lost one of my cats this summer. She was always my husbands cat. I had a miscarrage and was home in bed fealing pretty miserable and Bagherra came and slept with me comforting me. After that moment she became a big part of my life, I don't think I have ever loved a cat as much as her! I want another one(we still have 2) I just haven't found the right one at the SPCA yet...

The reason why my cat "Garfield Tigger" is so special to me is because on Nov.1 2006 my brother died in a house fire. I work at a doctors office and before I found out that he passed away one of my patients told me that she had a 6 week old orange and brown tabby. So on my lunch break i went to pick him up, and the only thing he wanted me to do was to hold him (he is such the "lap baby"). The whole situation is strange because my brother that died in the fire had a cat that died in the fire with him, so God sent Tigger, I guess not only to cheer me up, but to allow my brother's spirit and the love that he had for his cat to live on through Tigger, who has made my life that much more special!

I am not a cat person; but, decided it wasn't fair to have a dog in my small apartment, so instead I got a cat. He's great and what a pleasant thing to have something greet you after night shift or just wanting to be around and enjoy your company. Yup, I'm still a dog person; but, adore my cat who I rescued over 2 years ago from the SPCA!

I got a kitty a few months ago and it surprised me. I have never thought of myself as a cat person so I never got one.
Well when I saw this kitten I automatically fell in love with her. She looks like a Siamese with light grey tints and she has a bobbed tail. Her name is Belle and she sits in my lap all the time, she cuddles, purrs, and is very loving.
She has made me more relaxed, more patient, and I could sit and pet her and listen to her purr for hours. Belle is so very affectionate, and she comes up and wants loving all the time.

I am so happy with her and very glad that she has become part of the family.

Just the other night, my cat (a Himalayan named Batsy) came up on my bed and nuzzled with me for about an hour before cuddling up alongside me and we went to sleep. The feeling of having her there under the covers took me back to when I was a kid, and had no worries in life.
I wish everyone had the good fortune to know and love a cat.

i would not even be a cat person if it hadn't been for a 12 yr. old Himalayan name Alex. From the 1st time i met Alex, he decided that I was one of his people and any time i was at my friends house, he would park himself in my lap and not move. It usually took about 15 min. to get up and leave becuz he would hook his claws into my clothes and hold me back. he passed away recently , but i have a wonderful 4 yr. old tom cat and I thank alex for that!
