Are there bus trips from upstate NY?

besides regularly scheduled trips, you can generally find community group-sponsored trips here and there. they are usually posted in your local paper's events section.

there is regular bus service from Trailways from many places around NY State. Greyhound operates out of larger cities as well, and some ares of the state have other companies serving as well (Peter Pan or Short Line, etc).

If you're in a small rural part of upstate, you may need to use a county bus (if there is one) to get to a major town or city.

Bus or train is the inexpensive way to go; but the hotel stay is expensive. You may look up New Jersey area; just about half an hour from New York. Go with friends so they can share the expense of the trip. Driving is another option.
If you have friends or relatives there, ask if they would let you stay at their place.
