they are always your children; legally , genetic, family line etc; age doesn't change that you are a Mom and that your child has a Mom. If someone asks me , I just say 4 ; if they want to ask ages fine; but by golly I gave birth to 4 , I am claiming my kids whether adults or not ; you can't stop being a Mom; you just have less to do for them now.

Why on earth would you want to deny having a child? If someone asks if you have children, be proud of the fact and say yes, you do. You don't have to say how old the child is, because it really doesn't alter the fact. Nor do you have to say that you were a single parent. The answer to the question is, "Yes, aren't I lucky?"
Then change the subject if you don't want to give any more information. But the best tactic is so add, "How about you?"
Most people will talk about their children by the hour, so that will let you off the hook. If the questioner doesn't have any children, then talk about dogs, or pets in general, or the state of the nation.
The problem with fibbing and saying you don't have children is that someone who knows you do will invariably be standing somewhere near. So stick with the truth, but keep it brief.

Regardless of the age of your children, they are always your children. My children are 27, 25, 22, and 9. When people ask if I have any children, I usually just say, "Yes, I have 4." That is all I offer. If someone asks how old they are, then I will tell them their ages. Or, I might just say that I have a 9 year old and 3 adult children. No need to explain anything to people unless you want them to know. If people ask you questions you are uncomfortable with, just say, "I'd rather not discuss that, thank you.", then change the subject or excuse yourself from the conversation. Most people ask about children because it is usually something to talk about with people you don't know very well.

Quick answer, Yes, you will always be a single parent as you raised that child on your own and that is NOTHING to be ashamed of. Just tell those people, yes, I have a child and he/she is an adult. and smile when you say it. Unless it is someone you really do not ~~want~~ to know anything about your life. Then just say no, as this child is not living with you. I guess I'm not sure why you would not want to tell someone you have an adult child. So you may have started early--- Hello, this is the 20th century and a lot of people started having children early and they are now having their "second" families.. It is fun....

It's a lie and disrespectful to your child to say you have no children (and it would probably raise more questions- "why??")

If anyone asks you a question you find too personal just say you don't want to talk about it. You don't have to share just because people ask.

I will be considered a mother until the day I die. I was considered a mother as soon as there were 2 lines on the pregnancy test. I consider it an honor and a blessing, not something to be embarrassed about.

when your child is an adult you can say whatever you feel you need to be saying. It is really noone's business if you have children or not. So, say whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

Just tell them the truth, that you got knocked up when you were really young and that they are grown up now.
