is it safe to give my cat a hug? if so when i do it will she understand what it is?

Of course it is safe to hug your cat. All animals love effection just like humans do.
My cat sits in my lap all the time and curls up around my neck for me to hug her and pet her. She purrs like a motor boat......lol
Both my cat and dog are very effectionate and require alot of love and attention.
And I fully believe that animals know just as much as humans what is going on through your touch and through the tone in your voice that you use with them.

I have a cat who likes to give hugs! He stands on his hind feet and when you pick him up he wraps his frount legs around your neck. If you cat doesn't mind being held then they may like it, some cats don't like to be held or hugged, so I guess it depends on the cat
