My 4 year old black and white cat Tom, knocks over any cup, glass, or drinking vessel with water in it and spills it!

He refuses to drink water from his bowl. So anytime I go to the bathroom, he runs after me and jumps in the tub and meows for me to turn on the fawcet for him so he can have fresh water.

Why won't he just drink water out of a bowl like normal cats?

I can't tell you WHY they do it, but I can tell you that one of my cats is the same way, the other three will drink from their dish but she HAS to drink out of a glass.
The only way I was able to stop her from drinking out of my glass or knocking over my glass was to get a plastic cup and keep it in the bathtub, that's where she drinks water.
I know it sounds strange, but it worked and she doesn't try to drink out of every glass in the house.

Mine used to do the same thing, I got a spray bottle and every time she went to knock something over she would get completely soaked. After a month or so she just gave up all together. As far as the tub goes, both of my cats will go into it and drink what is left over after a shower or whatever. I Imagine because what is left dripping from the tap is cold and they like that. I put fresh water into the bowl once or twice a day no matter what is left over. They don't seem to mind drinking from it but prefer the toilet or the tub as it's fresh and cold I guess.

I'm in the U.K we have fluoride added to our water (don't know if this is the same where you are. try leaving a glass of water(if your Cat can't get at it)overnight then taste it in the morning you will find it has a tinny taste!!! I have never had a Cat that was happy to drink from a bowl. my garden pond, a puddle, flower pot or the bathroom tap has always been the favorite.Cats like their water fresh.

Many cats prefer running water! Mine have always preferred drinking from the table-top fountain or from the tap. At least I know that with the fountain they are getting distilled water (that is what I use) and that, in itself lessens the chance of them getting UTI's or cystitis. BTW I really don't think there is such a thing as a "normal" cat!

I got 8 cats use to have alot more. Anyways, cats do this. I don't know why. I have one that will not drink fresh water and would rather drink water from a tire. Why? I have no idea....

I think they like the movement of the water, flowing from the faucet; my cat is the same way. Fresh water in the bowl, yet she drinks from our faucet in the bathroom, which has a continual stream coming from it.

My Gizmo will not drink from a bowl either. I just leave the faucet dripping. Cats are funny. As long as he gets enough water, it doesn't bother me if he doesn't drink from his bowl. As far as knocking over cups - just use cups w/ lids that shut tight.

HAHAAHAHAHAHA...You'll never know...my cat did the same freaking thing...only he actually drank out of his bowl, too. For some reason, he loved to jump in the tub to lick the water up.

Cats.....sheesh....
