spay her. It isn't safe for such an old dog to have pups nor go through a phantom pregnancy. Spay her as this helps prevent mammary cancer and pyometra.

I am horrified that anyone like solow would consider showing dogs more important than their wellbeing.
She is also wrong. If the vet say she needs to be spayed for the good of her health, the kennel club will grant a dispensation so that she can still be shown. Are those little bits of coloured cardboard with a roseete picture on, so much more important than your b1tch's health? Shame on you.

I would have the vet treat. There are things that can be done to prevent her suffering.
Also, important, I really would get her spayed, as I have recently posted, my little Abbey, a small lab mix was spayed at three months, about a year before I got her.
She is 11.5 healthy, happy and a good mum to Angel, a 2 year old homeless fellow who came our way (I had him neurtered as soon as I had him settled in).
The bonus: No messes from Abbey having periods, worries about pregnancies, or having every boy dog for miles round wanting a date.

My Irish Setter has had one phantom pregnancy - like yours she produced milk & started nursing one of my cats & a squeaky ball.

(I can sort of understand the cat ... but the squeaky ball!!??)

My vet also said that once she's had one then she's liable to have more & if she does she should be spayed ... she's not currently spayed, however, because in the UK, if you wish to show dogs at Kennel Club shows then they have to be entire.

Your girl will probably need a bit more affection than usual but she should get over it all okay - mine did/has & though she still has a special affection for the cat - the ball is back to being just a ball again.

I had a client that westie had sudo preg. she was neutered as they would keep happening and is stressful to the dog. Also good idea as they can develop cancerious tumours if not having pups and not spayed. Contact you vet

The vet should know if it a phantom pregnancy, plus he would need to give her something to dry up her milk. it can give them medical problems.

also if she is an older dog you should still have her spaded. i didn't know that they can get real problems if you don't. as i found out when mine had to have a really big operation. so please take your dog to the vets to be safe.

It does happen. I had a doberman that watched my cat have her babies and the doberman ended up producing milk. After five weeks she adopted a kitten of her own. Even nursed it. So yes it does happen, and there is nothing to worry about. The vet told me that it is normal for a dog to want puppies so bad that she will go through a fake pregnancy. It just means that she is a good mommy.

This is very common, and I'm surprised the vet didn't tell you so..
Once she has began having pseudo pregnancies, she is likely to have it each time she comes in heat, so spaying would really help her health, and your peace..

Do you think that having the 8 YEAR OLD DOG SPAYED would be a good idea??????????? She does not need to be having puppies at 8. Don't dogs get to enjoy that later years of their lives without being puppy machines?????

Getting her snipped will eliminate all hormonal swings. Plus counting on the position you stay you may get it performed at a low fee medical institution for airborne dirt and dust low-cost. i understand back living house it fee 10 funds.

my dog got this, there is a medicine for it that you give them every day for a week, it adjusts their hormones, and it worked well with our dog and she was fine after, however, we did have to get her spayed, especially as we were advised she could be prone to a very dangerous womb infection that can affect dogs (forgotten its name, sorry), plus I didn't want her going through it every time she came in to season.
