four months ago, I adopted a 4 month old (neutered) male kitten from my local SPCA. well, he was tiny when I brought him home but now he's as big (maybe bigger) than my 2 year old (spayed) female cat. so I was just wondering when male kitties stop growing. my vet said that he's a quite large to only be 8 months old. so I was just wondering. he's a very crazy boy who loves to annoy my female every chance he gets. LOL!! any answers will be appreciated! Thx!!

oh, and he's not overweight. he's an average size.

A lot depends on what kind of "background" you cat may have. Maine Cooncats keep growing until they are 3 to 5 years old. Currently have a male alley cat, who has finally seemed to stabilize at age 3. They are just like people. Some are destined to be tall, some short, but they are a lot more loveable.

I have 2 adult neutered male cats, Morimoto is 6lbs and ideal weight for his body size. George is 18lbs and just slightly over weight. George is 3 inches taller and 3 inches longer(and pretty close to the same size as my cocker spainel). So cats can range in size quite a bit! My vet did say he was going to be a big cat, I think he was about 18 months when he stopped growing. George is the biggest suck and still acts like a kitten, he's 8 now. Just wait until people come over and see your giant cat, you'll get a few double takes!!

With Bengals & some of the larger cat breeds, I don't think they stop growing until they are about 18 months old - though the growth is not quite as rapid as when they are younger. Males often grow bigger than females.

So you might have a very loveable, very large cat on your hands - hopefully he'll grow out of annoying your female!

I would say a male cat would probably be a year old before he stops growing.

Generally they stop growing at one year--except fatter.
