Do the Gospels have everything in it you need to know to be saved and go to heaven. If so, why do churches need to preach from any other books in the bible.?

If not, Then what else do you need?

Fish: why would you need the rest of the bible to know god, when god is spoken through the word, which comes from the gospels....don't make sense to me.

the gospels are the word, the rest of the new testament shows us how the church shoud be unified and in what areas it needed to be unified in. therefore we need the church. jesus came and instituted a church, the apostles continued his work, spreading the word and guinding the surrounding and foreign areas how to conduct themselves and church behaviour etc.....the letters etc are inspired and are needed or else god wouldn't have included them in the holy book.

Have you ever understand the Bible? If you really enjoin the churches meaning, you wouldn't say that. Nothing would be enough, Gospels are these fours books in the New Testament that tell story and teaching, but not really only Testament have that opinion. Other people and religious still roll in own world. You know they both have the same mean, keep rectitude, heaven, saved... Whatever is this just like you like chicken fire and your friend love chicken noodle soup, common chicken anyway, and yeah same calories, same nutrition... The church or Gospels are both keep you good, I had read the first bible of Budda, but So? All kind of rectitude book are common..

Yes they do, but so does the book of Romans......and the book of Genesis, Exodus, Levitcus, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, I could go on for 65 bookd. They also tell you who God is, what God expects from believers, the history of the world, Science, There is so much good stuff in there it's hard to explain. By the way, book number 66 is the one that tells you what happens to everyone who doesn't believe.
Did you know there is more proof to the accuracy of the Bible then there is proof that Homer wrote the Iliad? Did you know there is more proof to the accuracy of the Bible than there is proof that George Washington existed.
I love this stuff.
So I gotta ask you, do you know what you need to be saved and go to Heaven. Eternity is a reallllllllly long time

The Bible teaches a way of life. The Old Testament is full of prophecy and the New Testament shows how that prophecy has come true. Thus the New Testament shows that God's Word is true because His prophecy is true. Salvation is important, but so is living a life on earth pleasing to God. How are you going to know God without the rest of the Bible.

Kolorphul, lets just mention one book, Acts. Acts tells us about the Holy Spirit. Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. The Holy Spirit leads us and gives witness to Christ. The Holy Spirit lets us know Christ is who He said He was, and increases our faith. The Holy Spirit gives us power to witness to others. What good is knowledge of the Gospels if we don't have power from the Holy Spirit to tell others?

The Bible - Old and New Testament - is given not only to point the way of salvation but to give understanding about sanctification, the Lord's second coming, etc. There is a lot more to the Christian life - and a lot more that a minister should preach - than just getting "saved".

because the old testament is chock full of condemning and smiting and plagues and punishment. It is high drama and that is what sells. The new testament is just about peace and love and all that hippy stuff. You don't get people to pay money and fight wars for you with that kind of touchy feely fluff. It would not even bring in enough to fill a collection plate. People want old Charley Heston smiting Pharaoh(Yul Brenner) and the Fires of Hell. Not some long haired hippy having lunch with a bunch of other guys.

To develop a closer relationship with God it is important to live a Christian life. The writings of Paul for example give us instruction on doing just that.... Jim
