My dog barks and gets hostile with any sort of hand movements or gestures or anything like that, and he will run away from you if you approach him or call him. Never bit anyone though. He was a puppy pound dog (approx. 1 yr old) who ran away from home and is a beagle terrier mix and is on PCP i think!!!!!!!! Is there any way to reform his behavior? You also can't leave him near anything you want to keep alive LOL sooo crazy he'll chew anything and everything.

well obviously the hand was not used to pet and love him; can you blame him; yes you can reform his behavior but it will take time, patience and understanding and consistent training; just like with a child; give him good things okay to chew and remove thing (puppy proof just like child proof) things that you don't want him to destroy; if he goes after shoes , put them away; with time, he will lose his interest in those items since your changed his focus to good things; seems like he is bored , exercise him; a tired dog is not going to be interested in destruction, only a nap. Challenge him with treat toys ; make it interesting, change the toys so he doesn't get bored; resist hand gestures until he get better in check ; once he gets it that you love him and he oh so wants to please you, all the rest will follow; good luck and congratulation for saving him now teach him.

well, dogs can be chewers, so the only way to prevent that is keep everything you don't want chewed on up, give lots of chew toys and spray what you can't put away w/ bitter yuck or bitter apple. They are 2 nontoxic sprays that can be used to keep dogs from chewing. As far as hand movements, sounds like he was abused in his previous home. How long have you known him. Give him lots of love w/ slow small movements and allow him tto warm upt o you. give him treats for good reactions to you hand movements.. If this doesn't work, try a trainer.

This sounds like a serious behavior issue. Do not use any type of correction on your dog or it may become aggressive. I would recommend contacting a dog behaviorist who uses positive reinforcement techniques to train. Look for someone who has had success with similar cases. Good luck and best wishes.

do not force him to mix with other people. you might want to try to keep loud people away from him for a while. and if you have a friend who has a very predictable docile dog it would be a great idea to set a playdate every once in a while.

Bring it back to the pound you got it from, before it bites someone or you.
