Personally, I think they're both overrated. Neither have a long life. They burn out and you'll have to replace them after a few years. It isn't like with the older tvs that you could have for generations. We have an LCD in our bedroom. We live in Japan and bought it at a Japanese store and it is supposed to be a top of the line. It sucks. In less than a year the color changed on it and the screen is super dark. If you watch anything where the scene is dark then you cannot see the picture at all. It is the most expensive tv we own but we plan on getting rid of it and buying your run of the mill tv for that room. No LCD and no plasma.

Here is an article that might help you decide though.

Plasma has the best picture quality. You do have a few things to consider. If you plan on using your new set as a monitor for computer or to play video games. A plasma is out of the question. Plasma screens burn when used as monitors or on video games. LCD is more durable & can be used for both functions. If don't plan on using it as a monitor or to play video games then a plasma has the quality. Plasma screens are very sensitive. If you have children & a child touchs the screen it will damage in only a few touches. A screen cover is a must at this point.

Looked at both and I think LCD has the better picture and have heard that plasma screens need to be charged with gas from time to time - expense - and that they can get quite warm to the touch, just what you need on a sweltering summer's evening - a heater in the lounge. Fair chunk of change so make sure it is HD ready whichever you go for.

i'd like to know where these people are getting their info.
firstly, there is no such thing as re-charging a plasma. this is a joke that we tech's throw around just to get people going.
also, you won't hurt a plasma tv by touching it (the outer screen is glass - just like old tube tv's). you clean it with windex and paper towel. lcd's can be damaged by pushing on the soft screen too hard. furthermore, with regard to the life expectancy of your new tv, plasma's are generally rated at 60000 hours to "half-life" (half the brightness of new) - that's over 27 years at 6 hours a day. buy a plasma - you won't ever regret it! i just bought a panasonic th50px60 - the best tv available in it's price range ($2800 CDN).

happy viewing!

If you have the money invest in a DLP 1080p Television. It has the highest resolution and definition. It is well worth the money. When Blu ray DVD players come down in price you will have the TV to watch them. Pretty soon all HD channels will be 1080p!

Best way to solve that question is go to your local store and watch both them a half hour of so. Then decide which has the best picture and is easiest on your eyes.
In other words which one you like best after watching them both and comparing them.
