She was lucky. Her husband Joseph saved her.
Stoning women to death is old eastern tradition both practiced by Arabs and Jews in ancient times.
In some Arabic countries, women are still stoned to death; some think it's a Muslim act but it is not.

Part of the miracle of Jesus's birth is what happened when Mary returned to her people with the new baby in her arms. Upon the birth she had asked God for guidance on how to defend her honour to her family and friends, who all knew her to be a most virtuous woman. He instructed her to abstain from speaking a word until she was asked where the baby had come from. When that moment came and she was faced with the expected accusations, she did as she was told and silently pointed to the infant Jesus, who then miraculously spoke in defense of his virgin mother's honour and virtue. Of course, that divine sign cleared her in everyone's eyes at once.

The Bible says that an angle came to Joseph and told him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife, that which was conceived in her was from the Holy Spirit. He would be the savior of the world. To answer your question; God's protection.

Because she was a virgin, and they all knew it. But I imagine that she and Joseph were wed before too many people found out about it, and then she didn't give birth in that town anyway.

Her pregnancy was hidden and Joseph was told about her condition by the Lord. He married her to protect her and also because he was already engaged to her.

You are probably correct - EXCEPT Joseph stepped up and protected her - by marrying her. Then again by taking them to Egypt. (Read the account of Jesus birth.)

Do you think she told them about the angel? Much simpler to just let them all assume it was Joseph..... He probably did.
