From the point of view of humans---yes.
That would have done major damage to the food chain--not to mention Noah. If he hadn't put those on the ark, he would have been disobeying God. Disobeying God is what canceled everyone else's reservations on the ark.

There must be a purpose for them. Just haven't figured one out yet. But then do they need a purpose. I think its the opposite rule of thumb. If there's good there's bad, fuzzy,hairless: ugly,pretty....and so on. After all,does everything have a purpose.

As a spider and a worm, they likely didn't exist and just evolved from the forms of spiders that did survive, just as different forms of humans evolved. Your question is ill informed of the reality of the Flood and creation.
