Like calling it 'Winterval' in case it insults other religions or not having 'Happy Christmas' written in the card but like, 'happy holidays' or 'seasons greetings' instead.
It annoys me, I can't see how it'll insult other religions but I can see how it insults Christians.

I'm in England - a Christian country, we've been celebrating it for centuries so why stop?

Annoys the hell out of me. I am a non-conformist, I insist on saying "Merry Christmas", and some people are so pleasantly surprised, I get a truly sincere, from the bottom of the heart "Yes, Merry Christmas" in return.

God Bless You, and Merry Christmas (way early)

It annoys me that the same emphasis isn't placed on other religious holidays from other faiths. If we are a 'christian country' then those of you who are should practise what you preach and be tolerant and accepting of those who do not follow your religion. Why do all shops not put up 'Happy Diwali' and sell lanterns, why do shops do not display 'Yuletide Blessings' and sell logs on the 21st of December? Why - because we are honoured to live in a fairly tolerant multi faith society in which we should be able to celebreat and respect our differences. I am not christian, being wished happy christmas does not offend me, I don't believe in it so it is just words. If someone were to wish me good health at Yuletide then I'd probably fall over from shock but I would wish it them back sincerely. I have no problem with wishing christians happy christmas, but for the people who do so out of habit or expectation, that is what I find insulting. If you don't believe it, don't do it, don't celebrate it. Celebrating a religious festival by default because it is the 'religion' of your country of residence is far more insulting to those who believe.

Is this what the Roman Emperor, who had named himself the first Pope, did when he decided to call the celebration of the Winter Solstice, Christmas in order to be politically correct? Actually, it was only politically correct for Roman Christian. Those branching off with the Greek Orthodox held it on January 5th, which is why they split with Rome.

Since the holiday is ripped off from Pagan holidays, I don't understand why christians now "own" the season :)

Um, no I like Happy Holidays. I always have. It's christmas and new years, and solstice and chaunakah. It's not AGAINST christians - it's just including MORE holidays in the greeting. Why is "including more" considered ANTI? Beats me!

Nope.

One of these days we pagans are going to reclaim it!

It insults other religions because it makes the assumption that *everyone* is Christian and *everyone* is celebrating the same holiday. I can't tell what faith my customers claim by looking at them; I wish them "Happy Holidays" because Christmas *IS* a holiday and is included in that saying.

Nothing anyone of any other faith does can subtract from what it means to you, so why worry about it?

Yes it does, because. That is political correctness run amuck.
Not only that but when it comes to the fighting and dying for the country, it is the 99% Christians doing it.

I know what you mean. They have their own events in religion and probably celebrate festively so why not us.

My local Woolworth's about a mile away said they weren't putting up Christmas decorations in store just in case it offend other religions. But it didn't stop Boots and other stores putting them up and schools!

Christmas needs to go away.

The Nativity is important. The Incarnate Word of God made his appearance and dwelt with men. Nothing about Christmas is about that.

And exactly WHO is calling Christmas "Winterval" since Birmingham City Council proposed, and then rejected, the idea in 1998 because the city is so multi-cultural that it contains many, many people for whom Christmas is completely irrelevant but who they thought should be included in the obvious festivities anyway? Don't you get tired of recycling the same old stuff just to reinforce your view of yourself as the poor, persecuted minority that you aren't? Nail yourself to some wood or something.

EDIT

NO-ONE IS MAKING YOU STOP MARKING CHRISTMAS IN YOUR OWN WAY!! PLEASE *STOP* PRESENTING YOURSELF AS SOMEHOW PERSECUTED JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS *NOT* MADE TO OBSERVE IN THE SAME WAY AS YOU!

I think it's just a sign of the times. And, as I know who Jesus Christ is....I always love Christmas. So...those who desire to do "other" things with Christmas...that's up to them. I know the real reason to observe this day.
