Yes, yes and yes! I'm a Muslim who believes in tolerance, love and peace. Yet, I keep getting stereotyped as a terrorist because of the horrible, insane actions of some fanatics who misinterpret, or misuse, the teachings of my beloved religion. I hate them and everthing they stand for; It breaks my heart to see them commit these evil acts against innocent people in the name of Islam, which has always taught me to respect other people's beliefs and how to live and let live. It's not fair to label me and my religion based on what these monsters do. It's just not fair.

I am a muslim woman, and the stereotypes of us are so ridiculous. No, we are not forced to wear burqas. If you see me and my sisters in law out shopping, you will see very big differences between our dress. I am a convert, but I love my burqas and wear them whenever I go out or a strange man (friend of hubby's)visits. My one sis in law who is from Pakistan wears the traditional salwar kameez (long shirt with pants) and the loosely drawn long scarf that is basically a square cloth, and it always falls off of her head so it's around her shoulders most of the time. My other sis in law, also from Pakistan, wears jeans and shirts. Big differences.

We are also portrayed as being beated up at the will of men, when if you know ANY arabic and then look at the Quran in Arabic, you will see that the word used as beat does NOT mean beat. It means to separate from or to leave. Everywhere else the same word is used, this is what it means, so how can it all of a sudden change meaning? We're portrayed as being forbidden education, when the Quran makes it an obligation for all women to receive the highest education possible. We're portrayed as not being able to do anything on our own, when my husband and I basically live separate lives and meet before bed to talk about the day. I go out and do what needs to be done, he does his thing. Same with my sisters in law.

I hate how the west keeps stereotyping us. Just because all people of the world is not like it, that doesn't mean it's WRONG. To the rest of the world, what we in the US do is wrong. You can't judge entire groups by what the few have done. If that was the case, i would say all americans are just like those that run the government, little george bushes. But it isn't true. See, I am smarter than that.

Yeah, they try to insult Islam and Muslims at every chance. Look in this forum all the hateful questions and answers toward Islam.

Stereotyping is BAD.

Are you serious "a few bad apples" you are kidding right? I am not totally clear on your religion but it is "darkness based" right? Please correct me if I am misinformed.

Thanks, can you tell me in a few words what it is based on? I am not being sarcastic, Wiccans are mentioned frequently on here, and apparently, I know nothing about them.
