She also threw up twice today after eating some grass. Her nose has been running since after her surgery. It is a clear liquid.

I am just trying to get advice. If I thought her actions required immediate attention or if I felt her symptoms were serious, trust me, I would have contacted her vet already. As far as her going into the backyard by herself...the vet never said to keep her on a leash when she went outside to the backyard. My dog weighs 65 pounds and it is very hard to keep her inactive. We have tried but she just won't settle down. She was given a tiny bit of people food yesterday evening but it won't happen again. We have been inspecting the incision and it is looking fine. What are the symptoms of a hernia?

Runny nose is normal after anesthesia. It is a real nasal irritant...I would worry unless it becomes thick or greenish..
The throwing up is also normal..

Why did you let her eat grass? You do realize that it's too soon for her to be walking around in the yard by herself, don't you? At 2 days postop, she still needs to be on a short leash, with you standing right there by her. Each time she vomits, she's putting a severe strain on the abdominal sutures that are holding her body wall together. If they break, she could herniate....which means her intestines can come out from the incision. That's generally not considered to be a good thing to have happen. :-/
Vomiting at this point is not normal at all. She most likely vomited because she ate the grass, however. Most dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomach. The most common cause of THAT is intestinal worms or eating something she shouldn't have. Has anyone felt 'sorry' for her and given her any treats or people food? If so, you need to stop that.

Clear discharge from the nose is nothing to be concerned about by itself, as long as she's up to date on all of her vaccinations. It is not related to the anesthesia, since that is a gas that is given through a tube deep in her trachea (windpipe.) It is not given through the nose. If she starts coughing, sneezing, quits eating, or the discharge becomes white, yellow, or greenish....then it would be something to worry about. So, she's probably fine. :-)
(But if you have any further concerns, it would be best to call and ask her doctor....not a bunch of strangers on an Internet message board with no verifiable medical training or knowledge.)
ETA: If they perhaps gave her a Bordetella vaccination while she was in the hospital, that can sometimes cause a slight nasal irritation for a day or two afterwards.

Just remember that your dog just had an ovariohysterctomy a couple of days ago. That's much more than a woman having her "tubes tied." It's a complete hysterctomy. Although very 'routine', it's still major abdominal surgery. No matter how active she wants to be, she needs to be made to lie around and rest so that she can properly heal.

She may have a little bit of a cold, keep a watch on it if it becomes something other than clear call the vet
as far as the throwing up, she's probably still a little unsettled from the anesthesia.

Call the vet. We can't diagnose the dog from here besides you should have a number to call from the place you had it done. I do think it is great you thought enough of your girly girl to have this done.
