I have a 9-month old lab, and she jumps to every person she sees. And people of course don't like that, it's annoying because I can't be near anyone or she will jump. does this happen to you? How can I stop this? I do not want her to jump so much!!!

Fortunately, this is one of the easiest of all behavioral problems to solve. :-)

I answered it in detail for someone else just a day or two ago. So I don't have to type it all out again, please see my answer in this thread (here in YahooAnswers):

Good luck! It's a piece of cake.

(But that doesn't preclude the need for good, basic obedience training also. Please get started on that with a good trainer ASAP. You and your dog will both be much happier....and you'll be less likely to incur a lot of the veterinary medical expenses experienced by owners of untrained or poorly-trained Labradors.)

You can try ignoring her when she does jump up.

OR, you can put her leash on everytime you know someone is coming over and have her sit down. Step on the leash with one foot, making sure the leash is long enough that she can sit and stand comfortably. Have the person come over and the leash will automatically pull her back down when she tries to jump up. Eventually, she will get it. This worked amazingly well with my last puppy.

OR, you can, as someone has already said, put your knee up to her chest when she does jump up. Be careful though because you can hurt her if you hit in the wrong spot. If you are going to choose this method, please get a trainer to show you how to do it properly, so you don't end up hurting your pup.

Good Luck!

When puppy or dog starts to jump you are going to freeze and give NO attention at all. Some dogs do not care if the attention they get is positive or negative. They just want attention of any sort. So you will give no attention at all for this action. When the jump happens, turn to the side (smaller target) and do not make eye contact, touch or say anything. The dog is invisible. When all four feet are on the ground, wait a moment to see if he remains off and then CALMLY say “good.” (An excited tone will rev the dog up; you want him calm so you remain calm). If he starts to jump again, immediately freeze and turn off to the dog. If he wants attention, he has to keep all four feet on the floor. You can reinforce the desired behavior with a small treat when his feet are on the floor. Gradually increase the amount of time his feet remain off you before you “notice” him.

Good Luck!!

It takes time to teach her not to jump up on people. But every time she jumps up on someone say "Off, or Down" in a firm voice, then if she listens praise then heck out of her and give her treats! In time she won't jump anymore.
My dog used to jump up on people a lot, and when she would I would say ""Off" in a firm voice and when she would listen I would praise her and give her a treat.
I've been doing this with her for about 2 months now and she listens. She'll jump up on someone once in a while but not nearly as much as she used to.

Hope this helps and good luck with your puppy! =D

Keep her on a short lead. Yank and say NO when she starts to jump. Then praise her when she returns to a sitting position.

when you speak to your dog
use his/her name first and always

you will need to devlope a pattern
so Rover will be able to start to understand you& what you like

"Rover" should have at least two diff tones
"rover come here girl" or "ROVER, get down!"

it is very important to use the same words
"ROVER, get down!"
if you say "HEY, rovER ...he may roll over b4 u know it

train yer friends too
they need to stand directly in front of rover
with arms extended and palms stopsign and
"Rover, Down!"

repeat same language over n over fer good ol rover
