One of the Major Brands in one of their Lines had a Black-Purple hair color (actually more then one did, so I hope to get more then one answer).

This was a Kit/Box,.. that was Permenant,.. not that Semi Gel or Powder stuff.

As people have learned,.. the Hair colors in my Area are awful, so I can not just go hopeing around from store to store and the Employees are not very good at understanding.... Colors, Numbers, Leters,.. what planet they are on *sighs* So the limitations mean no help locally.

There are some things I do not want to hear,.. they include:
*Go to Sally's -- The morons around here work there. They do not have kits like normal stores, atleast at the one by me.
*Go to a Salon -- Just like all the other Employees of every business around here,.. these people tend to burn three people before getting fired and moving on to ANOTHER Salon in the area,.. repeat.
* Your hair is fine-- UKnoNotWhose hair it goes in and what their hair looks like and how it reacts

I ran out of room when I posted the above (as you can tell).

I want Permenant and I know there was a good color I saw by some majoy brand (Revolon, L'orel, Clairol,.. something like that) that had Purple in the name of the color or Purple in the subtitle/description for the name of the color.

Oh I think it's called "Fo Ghetto Gurlz," it's probably available at most of those stores with "Beauty Supply," in their name.

The permanent color would be 1 V- that is level 1 black and V for violet. Goldwell has a great 1VR permanent color and they have a new color system that doesn't require pre lightening in order to show up. Remember if your hair is already tinted-- Tint doesn't lift tint. The trick is if your hair is already dark the purple won't show up and highlighting is necessary. The reason people use the semi permanent stuff is because the bleached or highlighted hair fades so fast that you need to use the color often and using permanent color often on your ends will damage the hair more and then it fades faster. I have seen the semi permanent last just as long as permanent on the bleached hair. I am living in Sweden so I cannot tell you of other brands but the girls who have the most experience mention their favorite colors at Geocities and places like that

-I think the name of the "color" closest to Purple Black is "Eggplant". What you get from Sally _is_ better quality even though you have to buy your own developer and gloves (or keep bottle and gloves from an old kit), it wont dry your hair out as much as Herbal Essence. The Brightest Color "lines" I've used are L'oreal: Redlights (this is a professional line, not in grocery/drug stores)Look for burgundy or violet or purple and mix with half as much (level 2) darkest brown, and lastly try on line for "Crazy color" or "Manic Panic" in eggplant or violet/black. It is what punk rockers use over bleached hair. ( I don't know if it comes in a kit).
Also: The letters vary wildly from one company to the next but the numbers are a bit more predictable: 1 is black, 10 is lightest blond, how you get there depends on what type of hair you start with. ( I almost never do permanent dark colors before trying it in semi-permanent because it is hard to bleach black out of the hair and makes most people look sick. Eggplant in semi-permanent, 24 washings (Wella, Clairol, preference, Majorel (strong) are all similar), with no ammonia is what I recommend before finding permanent one with above guidelines. I'm sure you will be gorgeous!

Any L'oreal is a good hair color, Feria, Preference, Excellence. They all have 'blue-black' which will give you a purplish black. Or there are the dark, dark burgundy reds, they will also be in those brands. I'm not going to tell you not to do it -I've sure done it enough, and I find that doing my own is the only way I can afford the look I want, and keep some idiot from cutting it all off while I'm relaxed from the shampoo! Hope I helped a little! Good luck!
