When I had my wisdom teeth out, I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed at once. It was horrible! I am allergic to all kinds of prescription pain meds. I told the surgeon that and he gave me one that made me throw up two days after the surgery, which made the pain in my mouth worse (from the stomach acid hitting the wounds in my mouth.)
I found Advil Liquigels to be the only thing that helped me. (That stuff is a Godsend!) I took 4 Advil Liquigels (which equals I prescription strength ibuprofen) every 6 hours on a full stomach. I also applied heat and ice alternatively to my face. It made being awake bearable. LOL.
Good luck and I hope you feel better!

The pain is most likely soreness from having your mouth stretched and possibly having bone removed to get the teeth out. This soreness is from inflammation, so you should take an anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen (motrin, advil, etc)
You can often take 3-4 200mg tabs every 4-6 hours for a short duration until your dentist is available again. However, you should try calling the office and seeing if there is a way to page the oral surgeon to call in more pain meds.
Also, it is possible you have a dry socket; this is the result of the clot being pulled out of the socket and is quite painful; these need to be treated in the office; drugs won't help much. So call!

I have also had extreme and i mean extreme teeth pain. It used to keep me from falling asleep and if I did go to sleep the pain would be so intense that i would wake up literally crying. Until I started to use Tylenol extra strength rapid release tablets. They are amazing and helped me alot. The package says take two every two hours but I took 3 tablets three times a day. When i wake up, some time in the middle of the day (whenever the morning pills wore off), and about twenty minutes before i went to sleep and they allowed me to sleep through the night. Whatever you choose be careful OTC pain medications can cause liver damage. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You dentist office should have a dentist "on call" if not your dentist - if you run out and find you just can't make it through - call the office and ask for enough to get you to your next appt with them.
I had some SEVERE dental problems and my Dr. actually perscribed a topical solution - it came is a small can and had a seperate tip you attached that allowed you to control the spray. IT WAS A GODSEND!
My Dr told me that "it's very hard to ease oral/dental pain chasing it with pills"
That stuff was so wonderful, I'd spray it on and the entire area I sprayed would go totally numb for 2-3 hrs - almost like the novacaine but localized EXACTLY where I needed it.
If you call the pharmacy and describe to them what I just told you - I'm sure they would know what it was (it's also used a lot for elderly patients to aid in their ability to swallow food??? I don't know for sure, but that may help the pharmacist identify what it is) IF THEY CAN'T FIND IT email me and I will dig out my files and rcpts and find the name for you:)
BUT, if you call and get a dentist on call that didn't treat you they may not be willing to refill narcotic meds - asking for this solution should be an acceptable compromise and for tooth pain worked so much better for me than pills!!

I know It sounds wrong.....Most Hydrocodene pills that are for heavy pain are about 800mg. Most Tylenol is about 350mg to 500mg. I had my wisdom tooth removed and was in pain. Go get some orajel extra strength. First take the Orajel then Take 2 extra strngth pain killers. If it gets really worse...there always is 1 800 dentist.

Look up your doctor's home number or the hospital should have an on call doctor. otherwise I would take Motrin to help with any inflammation and pain relief. Good luck, hopefully you do not have a dry socket. Definitely have i checked it should have been feeling better by now.

Talk to a pharmacist- they'll be able to tell you which pain reliever will work best with the kind of pain you have.

make sure you are getting 1000mg of tyenol with your pain meds. That is if you take one and it has 500mg tyenol. you can also take asprin or ibuprofen, or alieve with it. Do not exceed 4000mg a day of tyenol.

Have you tried warm tea or broth and holding it in your mouth until it cools before swallowing? I think you are asking for trouble if you mix meds.
