It`s beyond me the way some people "think" . I`m getting violations for speaking the truth and maybe hurting someone`s wittle feelings.
How many times can one person ask the same question ? Answer- until they are told what they what want to hear , whether it be fact or fiction . Yes, they do think it is all done by magic just as everything else in a fantasy world . They need to click their heels three times and.... "there`s no place like home."

Well, it does depend on the breed. I know alot of people with Afghans and almost all are buzzed when done showing.

It takes a ridiculous amount of time to keep an AH in show coat. Brushed daily and a full bath once a week. A friend has 36 (give or take, LOL!) and there is no way she could keep them all in coat, and why should she? She is a groomer and grooms all day. But even just to keep a FEW in show coat would be a HUGE job!

I have an elderly Kees with an immense coat who has gotten tender over the years, and she tends to get hotspots because the air just can't reach her skin. I have her trimmed like a PWD and her skin is so much healthier, even though I am aware that some dog people are appalled.

I say better buzzed down than a matted unbrushed mess.

It isn't very often that I disagree with you!

I think because they are just plain lazy. Not only that but then they come on here and ask how do I stop my dog from shedding and then they find out you can not stop a dog from shedding no matter what you give them, they buzz the hair off. Problem solved.

Some of them do look cute with their buzzed down coats, though - makes 'em look like they are still puppies.

And sometimes it's done because the weather is hot & it's kinder on the dog ... my Dad's friends in Dubai had an Afghan & she was regularly shorn of her long locks - apart from keeping her cool it made it easier when they all went swimming from the beach.

It's a shame though, when they are shorn just because their owner didn't manage to keep on top of brushing the knots out of their coats.

Seems like you have put much thought into this matter. If someone buys a dog, and cares for it, then it is their right to BUZZZZZ and make MAGIC. "doggie-woggies" what a wonderfully feminine way of describing a dog. .

I think that they have intentions of keeping up the coats,, and then discover that it is just too much work. Their dogs will never appear as the ones in the Westminster show, because the life of those show dogs is formed around the grooming routine..So, they soon give up, and just do what is easier..
However, a dog is so much more then just a pretty coat! and I don't think it means that they love them any less..
I raise a very large, long coated breed..and run into this all the time..I make certain the buyer knows what is envolved in keeping the the coat gorgeous..Still. some of them do end up having them clipped..

I can almost deal with all the people that shave their little froo-froo doggies...maltese,shih tzus,lhasas,...all those.......what I cannot STAND is the people that shave big coeated dogs!!!!!

Rough collies,OES,goldens, pyrs,NEWFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHat the freaking hell is wrong with people!!!!!!!!!!!! The coat is NOT that much upkeep with a daily 5 min brushing!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not like you need to spend your entire day grooming the dog!!!!!!

Get another breed if you think you cannot handle HAIR all over the house!!!
I am also SICK of all the posts about stopping dogs from SHEDDING!!!! Are people TOTALLY stupid!!!?? Do they really think there is a secret potion to keep you GSD from shedding???

SAD!!!!

They are usually small dogs. People want small companions. If you want that type of dog you must have them groomed to prevent Mats, skin infections and to remove dirt from them. I don't have those types because I refuse to have a dog that has to be groomed. I do take my dog to the groomer each month from spring to fall for comfort and cleanliness but not in the winter.
