I'm quite scared of my jack russell; this is her first litter, but she's extremely hyper. I'm scared that she won't settle down when the puppies are born. I'd like some advice if you may. I also want to know the limit of puppies she can have. She will be a year old January 5th, so she's not even a year old yet. She's so hyper that we can't potty train her either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a JRT and who had her first litter at the age of an extremly hyper two. (She still acts like a puppy...) My sister and I took her to the vet to make sure she was ok and that she would be settle down when she did give birth. He assured she would and that she would have 3-4 pups. He was 50% right-She had six healthy pups and settled down the day she started to have them. That dog became the "ideal" dog! She became very attentive and very protective. Best of luck-JRT puppies are the cutest and most fun!

Potty training has nothing to do with 'hyperactivity.' Both submissive and excitement urination can be a problem in some dogs, but this is not a breed that is particularly known for that (like Cocker Spaniels, for instance.)

JRT's are one of the most intelligent breeds there is. They are also one of the most energetic, as well as sometimes stubborn. Proper obedience training is therefore crucial for their emotional health and development.

It sounds to me like you need the advice and help of a good dog trainer....but first, you need to see your veterinarian for basic prenatal care for your dog. Your DVM and staff can help you with a good bit of that during one of those visits. If she's already pregnant and hasn't been for her first prenatal checkup yet, she's past due. You need to know a whole lot more than what can possibly be posted here. Please make sure to take a pad and pen to take notes, as there is a lot of very important information they need to go over with your about her pregnancy and care of the puppies.

She's not even a year old? That is dangerous. She is very young. If your vet wont spay her (if shes too far along) then you need to MAKE SURE she is under close watch by them. The hyperness is the least of your worries, of course shes not going to be calm seeing she is STILL a puppy. Poor thing... make sure if she has the puppies to get her spayed as soon as she is able to be.

Well, I would mabye suggest to get a warm wash cloth or towel, and try to lay it on her stomach if you can get her to lay down. Just rub her ears/head, and try to gently calm her. Let her stay in a comfortable area with cushions, blankets, or something soft. Make sure everything is a bit qiuet so she will calm down a little more. Well, good luck to you and your dog!

my wild animal was not a dog, it was a pig. that pig was so mean we were afraid to get close to her. but when she started having her babies, she did not care who was there. we had to help deliver them.
