A man falls overboard and gets washed ashore on an island with nothing but sand. The island is 50 miles from the nearest land. He can't swim, the water's 100 feet deep, and the island has nothing to make a floatation device with. With no help from people, animals, fish, or machines he finds a way off the island.
How does he do it?

I think it is impossible for an island to have nothing but sand but anyway.... (this is probably completely wrong) you only says he gets off the island and not that he got back to land soooo he could have just jumped into the ocean then technically he would be off the island.

Either...

He learned how to swim

he took a bridge

he waited till the water froze, and walked off the island

he got a ride from dolphins or whales

He starts to shovel sand(using his hands) from one end of the Island to make a land bridge to land. It'll take a while but what the heck.

He waits for the lake to freeze, then he simply walks across because it is not a tropical island!

It's not a tropical island.

It freezes and he walks off.

I betcha he hooked a ride with a dolphin, or the boat came back to pick him up. Or he could have learned how to swim.
