leave the car in drive. The + and - symbols are for the tiptronic trans which lets you shift the car like it has a manual trans.

my usa rabbit had a yellow lite on the dash with a plus sign on it
(+) that told me that told me that running to high in the power band for the motor and i should shift into the next higher gear.
once i was in overdrive the lite wouln`nt come again. It sounds like they have gone one step further and now tell you they want you to down shift also. This is all for fuel ecomany and to let you drive in the best rpm range for the conditions at witch you are driving.

You can get an owner's manual for $49.95 at http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=r8w5. Pretty expensive, but I can't find the answers to your questions on the Internet.

I work for WV in Germany and we just drive them as fast as you can get through the gears and look in www.wolksvagen.de for info on books (the only problem is every thing is in German..) good luck
