If she is acting normal she may have just been stung by a bug or bitten by a snake... If there are no other symptoms you should be able to wait and just watch her to make sure more symptoms don't appear or the swelling doesn't get worse.

If it is a bug bite then benadry would work if you could get her to take it. A snake bite is a bit harder but as long as she is acting OK it is probably not all that serious. Although you should watch her CAREFULLY.

HOWEVER, if it gets worse or you just get more worried then BY ALL MEANS consult the vet...

My cat likes to chase bees and has a tendency to get stung on his paw or his face regularly, usually he swells and I put ice on it and give him half a benadryl and he is OK. But I did consult the vet the first time which is how i knew it was OK to give the benadryl (most animals WILL NOT TOUCH IT you have to force them to take it).

There are several things that can do that to a dog. An insect/ spider bite, an allergy or even an infection. I have a pit bull mix. about 2 yrs ago he got a tooth infection. My parents gave him a bone with out me knowing about it and he broke his tooth. I didn't notice it and he developed a tooth infection. The vet gave him antibiotics for the infection and the swelling went down right away. He also has allergies. He's allergic to pollen and such. If he is out for too long I have to give him benedryl. He is 60 lbs and he gets two caps. It does make him sleepy, but he doesn't swell or get itchy any more. I would give him one capsule and see if that helps. Either way keep close watch over him tonight and call the vet in the morning. Oh by the way. Dogs should NEVER have other antihistamines EVER! No over the counter meds other than Benedryl.

Well, you might consider taking her to the vet right now. Has she had another kind of dog food/food lately? She may be having an allergic reactiong to her food, or another medicine you gave her. My dog had a swollen face one time, and I found out that a bee had stung him in the mouth. Has she gotten into any powders or anything? That may be cousing irritation to her skin. If you can, take her to the vet. Hope I helped, and good luck to your puppy!

it sounds like a snake bite, which you should take her in to your vet-now! If you have other dogs or pups with her they might of played rough. If she is cutting teeth, but the bloodshot eye would not be from a tooth. call your vet. Could their of been someone in your yard that hurt her for some reason? I hope she will be fine! GOD BLESS YOU!

it is ordinary for a puppy to be curious so it could have got stung or just fell down on its face. only if it looks infected should you take the pup to the vet. if its eating and playing habit changes that could be a bad sign also. also if you are just really worried take him to the vet to get him/her checked out. it will make you feel a lot better.

Go to vet. always when in doubt. Don't waste time asking here, go to vet. Put your mind at ease and have the peace of mind that your dog isn't suffering. Because they don't show pain like people.
And sorry to say it most people here do not have a clue.

Just watch her for any trouble breathing..You can give her plain benadryl for the swelling, and if it isn't better by tomorrow, you should call a vet..However, it sounds more like an insect or spider bite, and should improve daily. This is from the pet first aid site> Typical dosages: for cats and dogs under 30 pounds, give 10 mg...dogs 30 to 50 pounds, give 25 mg...dogs over 50 pounds, give 50 mg. Use only the plain Benadryl formula.

Yes, please take her to a Vet because there are too many things that could be wrong and you don't know how serious it is. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. and letting something potentially worsen may be more costly, financially speaking or in terms of your dog's health and recovery.
